FA Cup: Mansfield shocks Burnley, can Arsenal keep quadruple hope alive?

The FA Cup struck with shocks on Saturday as envisaged. It's an annual tradition that we hope never ends. It is why we call it a magical competition.

Burton Albion laid the foundation for what was to come. The League Two side nearly ran West Ham ragged. The Hammers had to wait till the first half of extra time to get the goal that won them the game. The hosts switched things up when substitute Potts saw red after a rash tackle; it took lots of grit for the Hammers to survive.

Fans of Mansfield must be living in the clouds. While one relegation-threatened side in the Premier League survived by the skin of their teeth, Burnley wasn't so lucky, as they lost to a sixth-tier club, just like Crystal Palace did.

Burnley took the lead early in the first half, but the visitors leveled just after halftime. When it looked like the game was heading into extra time, Mansfield struck again to silence the Turf Moor Ground. Another scalp of a Premier League side in the bag.

When you saw Salford at the Etihad, you must have been prepared to see them get a real hammering. For a sustained period in the game, the non-league side was the better side. At some points, they had more shots and more corners than the almighty City.

Manchester City had to wait till late on to get the second goal, with substitute Marc Guehi netting from a corner. Of course, the Citizens won 2-0, but that doesn't tell the whole story. It's the FA Cup magic.

Southampton beat Leicester again, Newcastle beat Aston Villa at Villa Park with the hosts getting away with an offside goal, and Lucas Digne avoided a red card, but his goalkeeper didn't. Liverpool beat Brighton 3-0, and now, we can look ahead.

Grimsby at home against Premier League side Wolves is a game to look forward to. This non-league side already did big things this season. Being in the 4th round of the FA Cup isn't anything compared to their win over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup. Wolves must be careful.

Arsenal's quadruple chance will face the latest test when Wigan visits the Emirates on Sunday. There are injury worries here and there, but a home game should offer some comfort for the Gunners.

Leeds away at Birmingham could be interesting as well, but you wonder if the duo of Wolves and Leeds need the FA Cup distraction as they both seek survival in the Premier League. The Black Cats are away to Oxford; recent results haven't been kind to Sunderland, and they need something to revive their campaign.
