Sunderland fought back to earn a point at the Stadium of Light against Everton on Monday Night Football, and that brings us to a bold call: the Black Cats will not be relegated from the Premier League this season.

This post is about the Champions League fixtures of Tuesday; however, it’s important we establish something about the league we have extensively covered for over a decade. Considering how newly promoted sides have gone down at the first time of asking in the last two seasons, this is different.

No side has gone down, having amassed 18 points after ten games; this leaves us with Leeds United and Burnley, who are both doing better than the previous six teams who came up in the last two seasons. Can Leeds United and Burnley keep up the energy?

Back to the main context of the day, what do we expect from the Champions League this week? We start the day with Napoli at home to Frankfurt. Will Antonio Conte finally find joy in Europe? It’s also important to ask, is there a reason every Conte team struggles in Europe?

The Italian champions and Frankfurt have identical stories in the Champions League; while the Germans were destroyed at home by Liverpool, the Italians also lost scandalously to PSV 6-2. The two sides need redemption; which of them will find it?

The first of the two biggest fixtures on Tuesday is at Anfield, where Xabi Alonso returns with Real Madrid to face Liverpool, a team that needs healing. The Premier League champions won at the weekend, their first win in the league in five games. Do they have what it takes to beat Real Madrid?

The Spanish champions are in a good place under Alonso; they’re the favourite for this one without a doubt, but for the sake of Liverpool’s quest to finish in the top 8 and for the pride of the Premier League, Liverpool must show up to be counted at Anfield.

The second of the juggernaut fixtures is the one between PSG and Bayern Munich. It’s Bayern Munich’s chance to continue their heroic start to the season, sixteen straight wins, and you wonder if they’re the favourite at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.

Arsenal is away at Slavia Prague; the Gunners will be without Viktor Gyokeres, who felt something at Burnley which prevented him from starting the second half. Mikel Merino is expected to start. With nine straight wins and eight straight clean sheets, can Slavia stop Arsenal?

Tottenham is home to Copenhagen, while Juventus, under Juliano Spalletti, is home to Sporting Lisbon. Both home sides have reasons to redeem themselves after tough results last time out. Will they both impress their fans?
