After Wolves beat Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday, the gap between Leicester City and safety was extended to nine odd points. Is relegation the fate of the Foxes?

From the look of things, the three teams that came up from the Championship last season are headed back south, reminding us of the tragedy of Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town, who all went back as fast as they came last term.

Manchester United lies in 15th on the log, the lowest ever the club has been at this stage in the Premier League era, but they could go as high as 13th if they beat Leicester and Spurs doesn’t beat Fulham in a game that would have concluded before United files out at the King Power Stadium.

The Red Devils turned on the style in midweek, beating Real Sociedad 4-1 to advance to the last eight of the Europa League, all thanks to three goals from inspirational captain Bruno Fernandes. Can he step up again for them on Sunday?

Leicester is running out of time, and with Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s reputation on the line, he would need favours from his former side to earn a result that could be the beginning of his fight against the drop; he can’t afford to lose this game.

United have nothing to lose in the league, and as we’ve come to know them, they play better when they’re playing against stronger teams and then struggle against teams in the bottom half of the league. Does this give Leicester some hope?

Abdul Fatawu and Harry Soutter are the only confirmed absentees for the hosts, with everyone else available for selection. This means Ruud Van Nistelrooy can pick his best eleven to try to ruffle the feathers of his former side.

For United, they continue to miss the firepower of Marcus Rashford, who is flying with Aston Villa; you wonder what could have been if they had managed relationships better. Patrick Dorgu serves the last of his three-match ban while nothing has changed on the injury front.

Expect Wilfred Ndidi to drive all the midfield engagement for the hosts while Fernandes is still the man to watch out for in the visitors’ ranks; on dead balls, as seen in their last few games and in chance creation, Leicester must be brave; they have a chance if they take the game to their visitors.

Verdict: Leicester to win or draw
