Brentford’s home form came to play again when Manchester City came to town in midweek, forcing the champions to a 2-2 draw, which must have ended any faint title hope in the Mancunians.

Brentford, currently ranked eleventh on the log, has a strong home record, having only lost twice at home this season. However, they will put this record to the test when the log leaders visit the G-Tech Community Stadium on Saturday.

Liverpool is starting to put the chasing pack back into serious contention; Arsenal's victory against Tottenham at home on Wednesday puts the Gunners only four points behind the leaders, but the leaders still have a game against Everton to come.

Liverpool has only managed two victories in their last five games across three competitions, a stark contrast to their pre-New Year performance when they topped their domestic and Champions League standings. They need to regain control and make sure they don't waste any more points.

In fairness, Liverpool's last game was away at high-flying Nottingham Forest; a draw was about the right result, with Matt Selz having a significant impact with numerous saves to keep the scores level.

Brentford’s injury crisis is easing up, but they still have quite a few on the treatment table. Ethan Pinnock is still out with hamstring issues while Kristopher Ajer is yet to recover from his ankle issues. Igor Thiago is out long-term, while this fixture comes too soon for Josh Da Silva.

Liverpool will assess Luiz Diaz ahead of kickoff, but Arne Slot confirms the Colombian trained on Friday. Diogo Jota could miss this one due to the knock he suffered against Forest, while Joe Gomez remains the only confirmed absentee for this one.

Brentford needs to closely monitor Liverpool's front three. With Darwin Nunez back from suspension and doubts over two of the customary front three, the Uruguayan could start with Cody Gakpo and Mohammed Salah flanking him.

The midfield battle will be quite key. Liverpool's Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister will face off against the crowded trio of Mattias Jensen, Vitaly Janelt, and Christian Norgaard; the outcome of this battle will determine the winner.

While Bryan Mbeumo and Yoan Wissa are having impressive seasons, Salah's performance this season is truly remarkable. This game could have a huge bearing on the title race; Liverpool must win to stay on course.

Verdict: Liverpool is to win.
