Former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has stated that he will wait to claim his Premier League title following the ongoing investigations into Manchester City's practices within a specific time frame, which includes the season the Red Devils finished second under Mourinho's leadership.

Mourinho joked at a press conference ahead of United's Europa League match against Fenerbahce on Thursday that Manchester City currently faces 115 charges of financial breaches, with a judgement expected before the end of the year.

"We finished second in the Premier League," Mourinho said at a news conference Wednesday. "I think we still have a chance to win that league because maybe they punish Man City with points and maybe we win that league and they have to pay me the bonus and give me the medal."

Manchester United ended a run of five games without a win with a 2-1 victory over Brentford at the weekend in the Premier League.

They now need a win to break the run that has kept them out of qualification places after picking up just two points in two attempts in Europe this season.

The Red Devils settled for a 1-1 draw at home in their opening game in Europe against Dutch side FC Twente before leveling late against Porto, having led by 2-0 at some points in the same game.

The 3-3 draw kept Erik Ten Hag in the job, but Jose Mourinho thinks United will soon turn the corner.

"Having analyzed them with my team, there is work there and they will succeed sooner or later," he said. "I want them to be successful. I wish the best for the coach and players. "I want the best for them. A bad turn for them doesn't make me happy."

With the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in the bag in two years under Ten Hag, Mourinho believes United is better than the results they’ve been recording.

Despite the indications of Ten Hag's impending departure, Mourinho finds satisfaction in sticking with him.

"If I have to say now who are the two biggest candidates to win the Europa League, I think it's easy; I would say Manchester United and Tottenham," he said. "The Premier League is a different level of quality, a different level of intensity, of pace, of tactical culture, of everything. Tomorrow we are going to play against one of the two strongest teams."
