Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana has gone under the knife for the second time in three years after suffering an ACL tear and is in danger of missing out on the new season that hasn’t even started.

"Fofana has undergone anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery". "Wesley will now begin his recovery and work with the club's medical department at Cobham during his rehabilitation phase" the club statement reads.

Chelsea will now hold on to Levi Colwill despite interest from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Chelsea’s position on the player remains the same; he is not for sale at any price, and the position is now strengthened with the news that the club will miss Fofana long-term.

Chelsea will also explore other defensive options in the transfer market.

The Blues were interested in Jovsko Gvardiol before Manchester City began negotiations with the Croat.

Harry Maguire is another player the Blues could turn to as they seek to beef up their defense ahead of the new season.
