It’s only match day one for Man United in the new season but their fans are already groaning with painful moaning after a horror display at Old Trafford on Sunday against Brighton and Hove Albion who recorded their first ever win away to United.

It was Erik Ten Hag’s first competitive game in charge of Manchester United but it proved to be a nightmarish one as the club displayed same of the same from the get go.

The packed Old Trafford crowd witnessed another embarrassment and they just can’t tell what next would happen.

Ten Hag handed debuts to Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen with Malacia left on the bench, it didn’t take long for the hosts to suffer another blow from the team that beat them 4-0 at the Amex Stadium last season.

A brilliant pass from Leandro Trossard beat the entire United defence with Harry Maguire trying in vain to keep Danny Welbeck offside, the former Arsenal striker sent in a dangerous low cross into the area and Pascal Gross was on hand to tap one home.

United offered nothing going forward and were soon two goals down.

The midfield of Scott McTominay and Fred kept losing the ball to the hungry Seagulls and it proved to be costly; another dangerous ball into the United area was parried to the path of Gross who made no mistake.

Man United huffed and puffed into the break but became better after the restart.

Ten Hag sent on Cristiano Ronaldo in a bid to halt the rot as the false 9 approach failed woefully.

United found a way back into the game through a contentious goal off a Bruno Fernandes corner kick that was credited to Mac Allister as an own goal.

Brighton did well to hold on for a precious win that broke a long-standing record as the Seagulls recorded their first ever win over the Red Devils away from home.

For Ten Hag, he was honest at his presser, he could see the problem and would now have it all to do in the ongoing window.
