Football is back, in case you’re still unaware. Pinch yourself; it indeed happened last night as Liverpool rallied to beat Bournemouth on an emotional night dedicated to the memories of Diogo Jota. Football is indeed back!

Wolves will host the former champions on Saturday to round off the day before the big fixtures on Sunday, and the last thing anyone wants is to fall behind so early, and this rings true for both sides, as the Cityzens want to stay among the contenders and their hosts don’t want to start chasing so early.

Vitor Pereira came into the picture last season and was immense for Wolves. He took them out of the doldrums and earned them another season in the top flight with weeks to spare despite how gory their story looked under Gary O’Neil.

Manchester City endured a weird season last time out, with Pep Guardiola failing to lift major silverware for the first time since he landed in England. The loss of Rodri added to the problem, but can they make things tick this season?

Wolves didn’t do a lot of business in the transfer window, and it is left to be seen how they manage without their departed frontman Mattheus Cunha, who left for Manchester United earlier in the transfer window.

Jon Arias impressed greatly for Palmeiras at the Club World Cup, helping the Brazilian side to a quarter-final place before losing to Chelsea. His acquisition is the only notable addition to this Wolves side; will that be enough to compete?

For the Citizens, there are quite a few new names you expect to see when they line up on Saturday. Tijani Reijnders is expected to be in the middle of the park as well as Ryan Cherki, who joined from Lyon earlier in the window.

Rayan Ait-Nouri will get the nod at left back, while James Trafford could make his competitive debut for the former champions in goal, with Ederson looking for opportunities elsewhere. Who else will lead the line? You guessed right, the big Norwegian, Erling Haaland.

Wolves are the underdog here, but don’t count them out. They had a great run-in last season, stringing wins together to avoid relegation, and they just might pick things up from where they started; however, their preseason form wasn’t exciting.

Pep Guardiola knows what is expected of him; both sides know what they need to do. Watch out for a one-sided affair early on, but the hosts can hit City on the break to hurt them.

Verdict: City to win.
