The Premier League chose a sensational way to announce its return with a juggernaut of a fixture at Old Trafford; it was Manchester United vs Arsenal on day 1.

Chelsea had a tough one earlier on Sunday, but you can understand that they only returned from their holiday ten days ago. It was a game they struggled to control, with Crystal Palace looking sharper than the Blues as they both settled for the first goalless draw of the season.

Chris Wood took off from where he left off last season, powering two good goals past Brentford; Keith Andrews has his work cut out with the Bees looking like a team that will struggle this season. Their 3-1 loss at Forest was uninspiring; they must get a grip.

Back to the big one, Arsenal went to Old Trafford and returned with three precious points; however, there are lots of talking points from the game. Manchester United must be proud of their performance on Sunday; they were clearly the better side.

It feels so much more familiar for Arsenal, the days of them playing so well against the Red Devils and ending up on the losing side. Wonder how the United players feel about the result despite their heroics.

Arsenal got their goal from another set-piece situation, and you wonder if that is the way to go again this season; their corner routine was a little different, but it ended up handing Ricardo Calafiori his first goal of the season as the Gunners held on for a win.

Bryan Mbeumo and Mattheus Cunha were impressive for United, but both of them could have taken their chances when they had one. Bruno Fernandes had a subdued game, and Benjamin Sesko was stifled by the Gunners' defenders when he came on.

There were signs of what Arsenal planned to do, releasing the ball quickly and trying to break the lines with long passes. They were underwhelming for the best part of the game and must show improvements against Leeds United.

For United, they can hold their heads high. They performed well and could have done better with the result. Altay Bayindir was solely responsible for the goal Arsenal scored, and it goes to show that the club needs a new goalkeeper.

Sunderland, on their return to the league, hammered West Ham 3-0. Will the Hammers struggle again this season? Monday night football is one to look forward to as Leeds United travel to Merseyside to play Everton in their new stadium.
