Chelsea and Wolves will square up for the only Premier League fixture of Sunday to end game week 18, with Manchester City and Brentford having a game in hand as well as the abandoned game between Luton and Bournemouth.

This season, the Blues no longer deserve to be called a title contender or a top-four team. They will not be near title conversations and would be brave to throw their hats in the Champions League qualification affairs; however, they need all the points they can get to steady the ship.

It’s also a no-pressure zone for Gary O’Neil and the Wolves. The Molineux would be happy with their manager despite some odd results, but they’re certain that the club would not be mixing it at the base with strugglers as things stand.

Things can change quickly in football and, not least, in the Premier League. The 3-0 home loss to West Ham could be easily forgiven because Wolves have picked up brave results away from home too, but no one will ask for heads to roll if they don’t get a result against the Blues.

Chelsea won their last league game, but they have struggled to string wins together. With players coming back from injury gradually, Chelsea can begin to find stability and some level of consistency with results. They’re also in the semifinals of the League Cup after a penalty shootout win over Newcastle in midweek.

It would be a decent season for the Blues if they managed to win the Carabao Cup and somehow sneak into the top six. It will represent a strong argument for progress considering their 12th-place finish last term; they can build from there next season.

The Wolves have Pedro Neto back from injury, but only Gary O’Neil can tell if he will be okay to start the game against Chelsea. The Wolves have missed the Portuguese winger; he still sits on top of the assist table despite being out for so long.

Chelsea fans are itching to see more from Christopher Nkunku. The Frenchman has stepped on the pitch for them but has yet to see a minute of league action. Chelsea can hand him a start at the Molineux while Nicolas Jackson continues to contribute attacking returns as well.

Verdict: Chelsea to win
