Game Week 1 Predictions: Arsenal to beat Coventry City at the Emirates

For the first time since the 2004/2005 season, Arsenal will go into a new season as a Premier League champion. You can see how elated the entire squad is about their new status.

Ask Mikel Arteta any question at his presser, and he will respond with "We're the champions," which only fuels their determination further. 

Arsenal wants to win again, and it starts with whatever they do here.

Also, for the first time since the 2000/2001 season, the Premier League will have Coventry City competing in it. 

It's a huge achievement for Frank Lampard, who would return to the Premier League dugout after being fired for the second time by Chelsea in 2023.

The Sky Blues won the Championship League and will face the champions of England at the Emirates on Friday in the season curtain-raiser. 

It's Mikel Arteta against Frank Lampard for the sixth time, with the former Chelsea man only winning once.

The Gunners beat Manchester City in the Community Shield last weekend, a game that probably sent signals to the rest of the league that Arsenal is not here to play this season. 

How will the Gunners approach the new season?

Coventry was indeed head and shoulders above everyone else in the Championship last season. 

They scored the most goals and played the best brand of football. 

They've been away for 25 years; will they survive their first season on return?

Arsenal signed Christos Tzolis and Bruno Guimarães as level raisers. 

You can conveniently say the Gunners have the best defense and the best midfield in the league. 

The attack is subjective for now, but if Arsenal adds a stronger attacker this summer, there won't be any doubt about whose attack is the best in the league.

Let's be clear: this is a David-and-Goliath affair at the Emirates. 

The championship winners could upset the odds, but they will need more than luck. Arsenal is on a mission. 

Can Coventry deflate the Gunners on day 1?

The Sky Blues must be patient, as they could suffer without the ball. 

Counterattacking football might be what will help Lampard and his lads, but do they have the firepower to withstand everything Arsenal throws at them?

Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice both featured in the Shield game against City; both players will be available to start should Arteta want them to. 

Watch out for Tzolis on the left wing and Saka on the right. Coventry will have a long night.

Verdict: Arsenal to win.
