Arsenal's elephant climbs again, reality dawn at Spurs?

"65 Pounds Down the Drain, Kai Havertz Scores Again” was the chant from the away end after Kai Havertz headed home the winner for Arsenal at Brentford on Saturday. It was such an expensive goal.

Arsenal knew it was always going to be difficult against the Bees; they had only lost once at home this season and were unbeaten in fourteen London derbies. As a matter of fact, the last team to beat them in a derby was Arsenal.

It was looking like another frustrating goalless draw, but Arsenal wanted it more. The Gunners would feel hurt from the loss at Newcastle, but they were only robbed of one point by the VAR; they didn’t create chances to score goals in that game; they corrected that away to Brentford.

Prior to Kai Havertz’s goal, Arsenal pelted the Brentford defense with hard questions; they didn’t stop; they kept going till the solid defense cracked and slept off to allow the Germans a space to head home from close range.

The win took Arsenal to the top of the Premier League log for the first time since the opening day of the season, and now the fans can believe again in the elephant that is on the tree. Where does Arsenal go from here?

Sunday brought a series of interesting games. Tottenham was on top of the log after ten games; now they’re out of the top four after three straight losses. Losing four players to injuries and suspensions against Chelsea ruined a lot of scripts; now they must find ways to survive.

Ange Postecoglou won’t change his style; he wants to continue playing a highline regardless of the opposition, but does he have the personnel to deal with it? He switched things up and left Eric Dier on the bench against Aston Villa to hand Gio Lo Celso and Rodrigo Bentancur their first starts since Nuno Santos’s days.

Aston Villa is fourth on the log; to think they were just one point above the relegation zone this time last year—what a job Unai Emery has done. It looks like Villa has replaced Spurs in the top-four conversation; Romero won’t be back until after the next game, and James Maddison and Micky Van de Ven are long-term absentees. It’s tough for big Ange.

Step forward Alejandro Garnacho's sensational overhead kick goal against Everton is one for the history books, reminiscent of what Wayne Rooney did against Manchester City many years ago. It will go down as one of the best for this season.

United beat Everton 3-0, but the Toffees had their own problems. They had enough chances to put United to the sword, but they couldn’t take their chances. Ten points off their season for financial crimes, and now that they’re down and under, what will save Everton?
