Liverpool beat Westham on Wednesday in the midweek installment of the ongoing premier league season but are they back on track following a difficult start to the season?

The Kops beat Manchester City in fine fashion over the weekend and followed that up with a same-margin win over the Hammers in a game that could have gone either way after Jarrod Bowen missed from the spot in the first half.

Darwin Nunez scored the only goal of the game midway into the half off a fine pass from Kostas Tsimikas but it was the incident at the end of the half that would grab the headlines with the referee pointing to the spot and Alison diving to his left to shut England forward out.

Liverpool sits in 7th on the log, eleven points off Arsenal having played the same number of games and with the World Cup break less than a month away, there are no guarantees that they will end the first half of the season in the top four.

The title conversation is definitely premature for Liverpool, they win back-to-back games for the first time this season and now have to build on that ahead of a busy schedule. Liverpool will hope the World Cup comes kindly as they continue to battle an injury crisis.

Luis Dias, Diogo Jota, and Joel Matip are all out till the end of the World Cup, Liverpool will have to cope without them and hope they don’t slip too far off the top four conversations before the lads return. For Westham, a loss at Anfield is not an issue but they must get their acts together.
