Jose Mourinho defends "his boy" De Gea, Fabregas and Mata show support

Cristiano Ronaldo and David De Gea hug after Portugal 3-3 Spain

David De Gea has come under immense criticism for his error in Spain 3-3 draw against Portugal during a Group B World Cup match.

The Manchester United goalkeeper has not been able to replicate his club form for his country, he seems to look short of confidence in goal when he is playing for the former World champions.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored all three goals against La Roja, the second goal was as a result of poor goalkeeping by De Gea and he has been called out on social media while Manchester United fans and colleagues are backing him.

After the match, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho spoke about De Gea's error on RT. The Portuguese manager backed is player saying: “It’s my boy, it hurts me to say but he knows it’s a bad mistake. It’s a mistake he doesn’t make with us, United - player of the season, fantastic performances. But that happens to the best”

David De Gea spoke to a Spanish news outlet after the game saying the Spanish press are always against him.

"I have not killed anyone, it’s a mistake, you have to give normality to it. I have the support of the whole team.” De Gea told Onda Cero

“I think the Spanish sports critic are harder on me. I don't see any good talk about me. I think there are a lot of people who didn't defend me when they could have defended me.” He continued.g

The former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper is getting more support from his colleagues and teammates.

Spain head coach Fernando Hierro has also come out to defend his goalkeeper, speaking to the Sun, Hierro said, ”De Gea? We are a team. We know there are players who will have better and worse days. He is a human being and we do not doubt our players. He is one of ours. He knows perfectly well that a goalkeeper is a special position with a special type of psychology."

Fabregas showed support for De Gea, the Chelsea midfielder was speaking a pundit on BBC. “De Gea mistake? We don’t see it often. He’s definitely the top-three in the world. It’s an unusual mistake. Me and Rio played with him, we know how good he is. He gives the defence and team in general so much confidence. It’s a shame, I feel bad for him.”

Juan Mata sent a tweet to De Gea, reminding him that he is the best.

Spain will play Iran on June 20th, hopefully, the 27-year-old can shake this setback off and show the world that he is the best.

He shared this on his Instagram page with the caption: "To learn how to succeed you must first learn to fail. We continue"
