Manchester United clawed back some self-respect with a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town last weekend. This victory helped to erase the memory of their horrific opening-day loss against Hull City.

Everton settled for a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth last weekend, and they can build on that with another strong result against Manchester United on Sunday. A win moves Everton within two points of league leaders Manchester City. This is the desire of every Everton fan.

Manchester United will hope to have the kind of second half they had against Ipswich. They won't get a lot of help from the Toffees as much as they got against the Tractor Boys. You wonder what could have happened had that game last week gone into halftime with the Red Devils trailing.

The transfer window closed without Everton finding a replacement for Beto. After agreeing on fees with Monaco for Folarin Balogun, the window ended in a chaotic manner for them. The striker had issues during medical, which Everton flagged, but their renegotiation failed as the window slammed shut.

Chelsea was also involved, and the Blues failed to land Lamine Camara from Monaco. The French club preferred to sell Balogun instead of the French midfielder. This left the two Premier League clubs without the replacements they wanted, and Monaco sticking with their two players.

It's interesting to see how Manchester United approaches this game. The defensive issues continue to haunt the Red Devils, with no replacement for Luke Shaw. United failed to convince Lewis Hall to consider a switch, and other areas on the pitch couldn't get the required upgrade. Can this United squad compete on all fronts?

Marcus Rashford looks like the brand-new signing no one is talking about. The forward spent last season on loan at Barcelona, and despite how well he fared for the Spanish champions, he wasn't retained. He can prove the difference for the Red Devils this season.

Andrey Santos seems to have lost his spot in midfield. Youri Tielemans is expected to be the one to partner Kobbie Mainoo in midfield, with Bruno Fernandes roaming around them. United is still without Amad Diallo; Bryan Mbeumo will continue upfront, with Sesko rumored to be out injured.

Thierno Barry is the only available recognized striker at Everton. Jack Grealish joined on deadline day, and he is expected to support the attack, alongside the ever-impressive Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Everton will stay compact to earn a result in this fixture.

Joshua Zirkzee was refused an exit on deadline day. Everton wanted the Dutchman, but United rebuffed them. Mason Mount is back in training, and Matthijs de Ligt is back on the grass too. Are we about to see the best of Manchester United under Michael Carrick?
