Newcastle United and Eddie Howe have parted ways with immediate effect. The former Bournemouth manager will not be the one to lead the Magpies into the new season, which starts in three weeks.

Newcastle had an underwhelming season, missing out on Europe altogether, but they competed gallantly in Europe and qualified for the round of 32, where they were eliminated by Barcelona in a high-scoring second leg.

Mattias Jaissle, the current Al Ahli head coach in the Saudi Pro League, is expected to take over from Howe. The German tactician will take charge of a club undergoing a transition in which the best players are sold every summer, and he will bear the weight of expectations.
