These weekend football predictions pick out the biggest games, the safest bet and one upset special. One title race could swing fast. Here’s why that
This weekend games have that proper run-in feel now. Titles, top four races and manager reputations are all wobbling at the same time.
By Sunday night, Barca could tighten their grip in Spain, Bayern could move one step closer in Germany, and Serie A could look very different if Inter or Milan blink.
There is also one awkward truth hanging over the weekend: no Premier League fixtures are on, so the real heat is in Spain, Germany, Italy and France.
Barca go to Atleti without Raphinha, Real are trying to keep pace before Bayern in midweek, Inter arrive off a four-match winless run, and Napoli have a massive one against Milan with the Lukaku situation still hanging in the air.
1) Atlético Madrid vs Barcelona
This is the biggest game of the weekend and it is not close.
Barca are top and four points clear of Real Madrid, while Atleti are trying to stop this becoming another season where they flirt with the race and then wave at it from a distance.
Barca also head into it without Raphinha after that hamstring injury, which is a real blow because he has been one of their sharpest match-winners.
Atleti have their own problems. Johnny Cardoso picked up a thigh injury on international duty, and that matters because Simeone’s midfield does not look half as nasty when one of the engines is missing.
This game usually comes down to who wins the ugly moments, not who completes the prettier passes.
Barca have the better structure. Atleti have the better chaos.
That usually means Barca control more of the match, and Atleti spend long stretches trying to turn it into a street fight. Be honest: that is exactly how Simeone wants it.
The problem for Atleti is simple. Barca have more answers. Even without Raphinha, they still have enough quality between the lines to punish one bad step.
If Atleti do not score first, this can turn into one of those nights where they run hard, tackle hard and still go home empty-handed.
Prediction: Atletico 1-2 Barcelona
Tip: Both teams to score. These games rarely stay clean for 90 minutes, and both sides have enough firepower to land at least once.
2) Mallorca vs Real Madrid
Real do not have the luxury of dropping points here.
Barca play later, so this is one of those classic pressure-builder kick-offs where Madrid either do their job or spend the evening watching with nerves.
Mallorca at home are usually awkward enough to make this irritating.
There is also the Bayern factor. Madrid have a Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday, so squad management will be on Arbeloa’s mind.
Militao is nearing a return, but Madrid are still balancing fitness and rhythm at the worst possible point of the season.
Prediction: Mallorca 0-2 Real Madrid
Tip: Real Madrid to win. Not fancy, not generous, but they simply do not have room for anything silly here.
3) Getafe vs Athletic Club
Getafe against Athletic usually means one thing: comfort is cancelled. This should be nasty, physical and short on beauty, which is exactly why it matters for Athletic if they are serious about finishing strong.
Athletic are the better side, but Getafe make games feel longer than they are. One set-piece, one scrap, one daft booking, and the entire script changes.
Prediction: Getafe 1-1 Athletic Club
Tip: Under 2.5 goals. This has all the signs of a game that spends more time arguing than flowing.
4) Valencia vs Celta Vigo
Valencia against Celta feels like one of those fixtures that quietly decides a lot for the last stretch.
Celta have enough quality to hurt you, but they also have that old habit of making straightforward afternoons feel complicated.
Valencia at Mestalla usually come with more edge than elegance. That is often enough in April.
Prediction: Valencia 2-1 Celta Vigo
Tip: Valencia draw no bet. Home edge matters in games like this.
5) Freiburg vs Bayern Munich
Bayern are nine points clear at the top and have already blasted their way to 97 league goals after 27 games. That is obscene.
Freiburg are still on three fronts, which tells you they are not here by accident, but Bayern are chasing titles and records at the same time.
The main team-news watch is Harry Kane.
Bundesliga’s official coverage flagged Kompany giving a fitness update ahead of this trip, so that is the obvious pre-match tension point even if Bayern still have absurd attacking depth.
Prediction: Freiburg 1-3 Bayern Munich
Tip: Bayern to win and over 2.5 goals. Backing against Bayern’s attack right now is just charity work.
6) Stuttgart vs Borussia Dortmund
This is a proper top-end Bundesliga game.
Stuttgart climbed to third with that 5-2 win at Augsburg, while Dortmund sit second and their loss to Bayern remains their only defeat in the last 20 league matches.
That is serious form from both sides.
The key battle is simple: Stuttgart’s sharp front-foot football against Dortmund’s ability to survive messy moments and still hit back. This has goals written all over it.
Prediction: Stuttgart 2-2 Dortmund
Tip: Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals. These two are in form and neither really does boring.
7) Bayer Leverkusen vs Wolfsburg
Leverkusen are trying to revive their top-four push after taking only two wins from their last six league matches, and that 3-3 draw with bottom club Heidenheim did real damage.
Wolfsburg, meanwhile, are deep in relegation trouble and winless in the league since 14 January.
Leverkusen are also missing Arthur, suspended Aleix García, Quansah, Terrier and Vázquez, so the squad is hardly spotless. Even so, Wolfsburg look too broken to trust.
Prediction: Leverkusen 2-0 Wolfsburg
Tip: Leverkusen to win to nil. Wolfsburg’s attack has not earned blind faith from anyone sensible.
8) Werder Bremen vs RB Leipzig
Leipzig away at Bremen has upset potential because Bremen tend to make home games noisy and inconvenient. Leipzig usually have more quality, but they can still drift in matches that should be put away early.
This feels like a good test of Leipzig’s nerve rather than their talent.
Prediction: Bremen 1-1 Leipzig
Tip: Both teams to score. Bremen at home usually find a way into the match.
9) Inter vs Roma
Inter vs Roma is the biggest match in Italy this weekend.
Serie A’s own preview called it decisive for both the Scudetto race and the battle for fourth, and Inter come into it after four official matches without a win.
That is not ideal timing for anyone wearing blue and black.
Roma need the points badly for their Champions League push, but their recent form has been shaky too.
This has all the ingredients of a huge match where both sides feel the weight before the quality arrives.
Prediction: Inter 1-1 Roma
Tip: Draw. Two tense sides, big stakes, and neither comes in looking fully trustworthy.
10) Napoli vs AC Milan
Napoli have won four straight and are unbeaten in their first 14 home league games this season.
Milan, by contrast, arrive with far less certainty, and Serie A’s own framing was blunt: only one of these sides is likely to stay alive in the title chase.
Then there is Lukaku. Reports suggest that Napoli were dealing with a row over his absence from training after withdrawing from Belgium duty, and that makes an already huge game even stranger.
Milan do not need an invitation.
Prediction: Napoli 2-1 Milan
Tip: Napoli draw no bet. Their home form is too strong to ignore, especially with Milan blowing hot and cold.
11) Lazio vs Parma
Lazio at home to Parma is one of those fixtures that looks routine until it stops being routine.
Serie A’s matchday notes point out Lazio have seen the most red cards in the league, while Parma have benefited from the most opposition dismissals. So yes, chaos is very much on the menu.
Lazio should have enough, but trusting them to make it comfortable is asking for trouble.
Prediction: Lazio 2-1 Parma
Tip: Lazio to win. Not a banker, but Parma tend to need the game to get weird first.
12) Juventus vs Genoa
Juve hosting Genoa feels like a trap only if you still think Juve are capable of dominating anyone for 90 minutes.
They are chasing major objectives, but they make hard work look like a club tradition.
Still, Genoa away is a game they should edge if they are serious people.
Prediction: Juventus 1-0 Genoa
Tip: Under 2.5 goals. Juve winning small remains one of football’s most persistent habits.
13) Monaco vs Marseille
Monaco are sixth, Marseille are third, and Ligue 1’s match sheet has this one sitting right in the European scrap.
Marseille also come in with the better recent form and the higher league position, which gives the fixture proper bite.
This should be fast, technical and a bit spiky. Exactly what you want from a Sunday night in France.
Prediction: Monaco 1-2 Marseille
Tip: Both teams to score. Too much attacking talent, not enough trust in either back line.
14) Lille vs Lens
Derby du Nord. That alone sells it. The numbers make it better: Lille are second and Lens are fourth, so this is not just local hatred, it is a serious table fight too.
Lille’s eight-match winning streak is the headline.
Lens have enough edge to make it ugly, but right now Lille look like the cleaner side with the hotter hand.
Prediction: Lille 2-1 Lens
Tip: Lille draw no bet. Derby matches can twist, but Lille’s form is too strong to ignore.
15) PSG vs Toulouse
PSG are top, Toulouse are ninth, and the gap in quality is obvious before a ball is kicked. The only real question is how much energy PSG spend rather than who wins.
Toulouse can be awkward for a bit. “For a bit” is doing a lot of work there.
Prediction: PSG 3-0 Toulouse
Tip: PSG to win and over 2.5 goals. Sometimes the boring answer is the right one.
Upset special
Inter vs Roma — draw
A lot of people will still instinctively back Inter because of the badge and the stadium. I am not doing that.
Inter have gone four official matches without a win, Roma are desperate for fourth, and this has all the tension of a game that nobody truly controls.
Banker
Bayern Munich to beat Freiburg
Nine points clear. Ninety-seven league goals already. Even with Kane fitness chatter, Bayern still feel like the safest straight result on the board.
Back any of these? Let me know what you’re going with this weekend.
