Gameweek preview for 24-26 April’s biggest matches across Europe, with predictions, tips, title-race pressure and one upset pick to watch.
European Gameweek Preview: Arsenal, Barca, Bayern And A Weekend Full Of Traps
This weekend is for teams with something to lose.
Arsenal are level on points with Man City but second on the Premier League table, Barca are trying to finish La Liga without Lamine Yamal, Inter are walking Serie A, and Bayern are already making the Bundesliga look like a league table written in pencil.
By Sunday night, a few managers will either breathe again or start pretending they don’t read social media.
Arsenal cannot afford another slip. Newcastle look broken. Spurs are still Spurs.
And in Spain, Barca without Yamal now have to prove they are a team, not a teenager with a left foot and a miracle subscription.

Banker: Arsenal to beat Newcastle
Newcastle have lost four straight matches across competitions, Eddie Howe has admitted there is a confidence problem, and Anthony Gordon is out with a hip injury.
Arsenal also have Bukayo Saka back. That should be enough.
Upset Special: Palace to avoid defeat at Liverpool
Liverpool should win at Anfield.
That is the lazy pick. But Palace have enough pace and awkwardness to make this uncomfortable, especially if Liverpool start like a team already thinking about the table instead of the match.
Premier League
Sunderland vs Nottingham Forest
Sunderland at home on a Friday night is not a soft landing for anyone.
Forest need points, but these are the games where relegation pressure turns simple passes into medical emergencies.
Forest must start fast because Sunderland will try to drag this into a scrap.
If this becomes emotional early, nobody should pretend they know what happens next.
Prediction: Sunderland 1-1 Nottingham Forest
Tip: Draw. Both sides have enough fight to avoid defeat, but not enough control to trust for a clean win.
Fulham vs Aston Villa
Villa are fourth and still deep in the Champions League race, level on points with Manchester United. Fulham are dangerous at Craven Cottage, but their season has had too many “nice football, no killer punch” afternoons.
Villa do not need to make this pretty. They just need to get in, take the points, and leave before Fulham realise they had a chance.
Prediction: Fulham 1-2 Aston Villa
Tip: Aston Villa win. Villa have more edge in the final third and more to lose in the table.
Liverpool vs Crystal Palace
Liverpool are fifth and still close enough to make the top-four fight annoying for everyone above them.
Palace are exactly the kind of side that can ruin a normal Saturday and call it “a good away performance.”
Liverpool should dominate the ball, but Palace will not care.
One transition, one poor pass, one sleepy defensive line, and suddenly Anfield gets that nervous hum.
Prediction: Liverpool 2-2 Crystal Palace
Tip: Both teams to score. Liverpool have the firepower, but Palace have enough pace to hurt them.
West Ham vs Everton
West Ham are too close to the relegation zone for comfort.
Everton are mid-table enough to be annoying, relaxed enough to be dangerous, and awkward enough to make this ugly.
This feels like a game where nobody truly controls it.
Just tackles, complaints, second balls, and one manager staring into space like he has seen the future.
Prediction: West Ham 1-1 Everton
Tip: Draw. West Ham need it more, but need and get are not twins.
Wolves vs Spurs
Spurs away from home remains one of football’s great comedy formats.
You can predict the chaos, but never the exact flavour.
Wolves will fancy this because Spurs rarely keep things calm.
If Wolves score first, Tottenham’s back line may start doing group therapy in public.
Prediction: Wolves 2-1 Spurs
Tip: Wolves win. Spurs have too many mistakes in them to trust away from home.
Arsenal vs Newcastle
This is the biggest game of the weekend because Arsenal do not get to call themselves title contenders and then drop points against this Newcastle side.
The Gunners are level with Man City on 70 points but behind on the table.
That is the kind of detail that makes every misplaced pass feel like a court case.
Arsenal have already had enough wobble this month. They need a win, not another “we showed character” speech.
Bukayo Saka’s return matters.
Arsenal missed his ball-carrying, his decision-making, and that calm arrogance he brings on the right side.
Without Saka, Arsenal looked like a team searching for the remote in the dark.
Newcastle arrive in bad shape. Four straight defeats, 14th in the league, Anthony Gordon out, and Howe openly talking about a confidence crisis.
That is not ideal preparation for the Emirates. That is walking into a title-race match holding a cracked shield.
Arsenal should win this. No excuses. No drama. No “we go again.”
If they cannot beat this Newcastle at home, they should stop talking about Man City and start worrying about themselves.
Prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle
Tip: Arsenal win. Saka is back, Newcastle are wobbling, and the title race demands a proper response.
La Liga
Real Betis vs Real Madrid
Real Madrid are nine points behind Barca, so every match now feels like chasing a bus that has already left the station. Betis are fifth and awkward, which means Madrid cannot sleepwalk through this.
This is the type of away match Madrid usually hate and somehow survive.
Prediction: Real Betis 1-2 Real Madrid
Tip: Real Madrid win. Betis will make them work, but Madrid still carry more match-winners.
Getafe vs Barcelona
Barca are top, five wins from five in recent league form, and nine points clear.
But Lamine Yamal is out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury, so this now becomes a different kind of title run.
Getafe away is never clean. It is not football for dreamers. It is football for elbows, stoppages and angry full-backs.
Prediction: Getafe 0-2 Barcelona
Tip: Barcelona win. Even without Yamal, Barca have enough quality to manage this professionally.
Atletico Madrid vs Athletic Club
Atleti are fourth, Athletic are hunting Europe, and this should be a proper tactical street fight.
Nobody goes to Simeone’s house expecting a picnic.
Athletic can hurt teams with pace and direct running, but Atleti at home usually know how to kill rhythm. That is basically their national service.
Prediction: Atletico Madrid 1-0 Athletic Club
Tip: Atletico Madrid win. Home advantage and game management should carry them.
Villarreal vs Celta Vigo
Villarreal are third and still not getting enough noise for the season they are having. Typical Villarreal. Do the work, get ignored, qualify for Europe, repeat.
Celta can be open, and that is dangerous against a Villarreal side with better structure and more quality in the final third.
Prediction: Villarreal 2-1 Celta Vigo
Tip: Villarreal win. They are stronger at home and still chasing a top-three finish.
Serie A
Napoli vs Cremonese
Napoli are third, level on points with Milan, and still fighting to finish the season like a serious club.
Cremonese are 17th and stuck in the relegation mess.
This should be straightforward. But Serie A loves taking straightforward things and making them feel like a legal dispute.
Prediction: Napoli 2-0 Cremonese
Tip: Napoli win. They have too much quality and too much table pressure to waste this.
Bologna vs Roma
Roma are sixth and suddenly dealing with noise off the pitch after Claudio Ranieri stepped down from his advisory role following a fallout around Gasperini.
Not ideal when you need focus for a European push.
Bologna at home will not roll over. Roma need control, but control has not exactly been their favourite hobby this season.
Prediction: Bologna 1-1 Roma
Tip: Draw. Roma have more quality, Bologna have enough organisation to frustrate them.
Torino vs Inter Milan
Inter are 12 points clear at the top. At this point, the Scudetto race is less of a race and more of a trophy delivery schedule.
Torino can make this physical, but Inter are too balanced. They can win ugly, clean, late, early — pick your poison.
Prediction: Torino 0-2 Inter Milan
Tip: Inter win. The champions-elect look too stable for Torino.
AC Milan vs Juventus
This is the Serie A game of the weekend. Milan are second on 66 points, Juventus are fourth on 63, and Napoli are squeezed right in the middle.
One result here could rearrange the Champions League race properly.
Milan have home advantage, but Juve’s recent form has been stronger. That makes this one ugly in the best way.
Prediction: AC Milan 1-1 Juventus
Tip: Draw. Milan need to protect second, Juve need to stay close, and neither side will want to lose control.
Bundesliga
RB Leipzig vs Union Berlin
Leipzig are third and still protecting Champions League football.
Union are the sort of side that can make a game irritating, but Leipzig have more speed, better attackers and the bigger reason to push.
Union need this to become scrappy. Leipzig need it to become quick.
Prediction: RB Leipzig 2-0 Union Berlin
Tip: RB Leipzig win. They have better form, better quality and home advantage.
Mainz vs Bayern Munich
Bayern have scored 109 goals in 30 Bundesliga matches. That is not a football stat. That is bullying with a fixture list.
Mainz may score because Bayern can leave spaces when they are cruising. But stopping Bayern for 90 minutes? Good luck with that.
Prediction: Mainz 1-3 Bayern Munich
Tip: Bayern Munich win. They are too powerful going forward and too far ahead for this to feel balanced.
Augsburg vs Eintracht Frankfurt
Frankfurt are still chasing Europe, while Augsburg are floating in that mid-table zone where motivation can come and go like Lagos traffic. That matters.
Frankfurt should have enough to create chances, but they rarely make things too comfortable.
Prediction: Augsburg 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt
Tip: Eintracht Frankfurt win. Their European chase gives them the sharper edge.
Koln vs Bayer Leverkusen
Leverkusen are trying to keep their European hopes alive after a season that has not matched recent standards. Köln will try to drag them into a tense, narrow game.
Leverkusen should dominate the ball.
The only question is whether they finish the chances or turn this into needless suffering.
Prediction: Koln 1-2 Bayer Leverkusen
Tip: Bayer Leverkusen win. They have more quality and more urgency.
Borussia Dortmund vs Freiburg
Dortmund are second, but Bayern are long gone. So this is about pride, Champions League rhythm and not letting the season end like a shrug.
Freiburg can be stubborn, but Dortmund at home should have enough firepower.
Prediction: Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Freiburg
Tip: Dortmund win. Home advantage and attacking quality should settle it.
Champions League
The Champions League semi-finals are not weekend fixtures, but they come immediately after: PSG vs Bayern on Tuesday 28 April and Atletico Madrid vs Arsenal on Wednesday 29 April.
PSG vs Bayern Munich
PSG against Bayern is the glamour tie. Not because it will be neat, but because both teams can turn a normal defensive mistake into a meme within three seconds.
Bayern look like the more complete machine, but PSG at home in a first leg is never a small assignment.
This feels like one where both teams score and nobody fully trusts the result.
Prediction: PSG 1-1 Bayern Munich
Tip: Draw. First legs at this level are often about staying alive before trying to be clever.
Atletico Madrid vs Arsenal
Arsenal have Newcastle first, then Simeone away three days later. That is not a fixture run. That is a stress test.
Atleti will slow the match, break rhythm and make Arsenal prove they can stay calm when football becomes annoying.
If Arsenal get emotional, Atleti will enjoy every second.
Prediction: Atletico Madrid 1-1 Arsenal
Tip: Draw. Arsenal have enough quality to score, but Atleti away is not where you go for peace.
Back any of these? Let me know what you're going with this weekend.
