Game week one of the UEFA Champions League is done and dusted, with no real surprises apart from the world champions, who didn’t compete in Germany, and Galatasaray’s scandalous loss at Frankfurt.

From game week one of the Champions League, we dive into game week five of the Premier League, where the boys get separated from the men. It’s about the Merseyside derby, the one between United and Chelsea and the biggest one of the weekend, Arsenal at home to Manchester City.

There are a few fixtures to excite us away from those big three, and one of them would be the one between Brighton and Tottenham at the Amex. The Seagulls have endured a subdued start, with the win against Manchester City standing as their only victory in four games this season.

Spurs can move straight into second place at least with a win in this game, considering the champions would have concluded against Everton by the time Spurs kick off at the Amex. It’s a game that could swing either way, and we’re up for the excitement.

Sunderland is proving to be the surprise package of the opening stages of the season with seven points from four games, and their fixture at home against troubled Aston Villa could well send them even higher on the log, while Unai Emery must find answers as Villa is yet to score this season.

Liverpool hosts Everton, and although their season looks good, it also seems unusual. The champions have won five straight games with all the winning goals coming in the final ten minutes of the game. You wonder if this is sustainable or if it’s the stuff of champions.

Their latest late show was against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, with Virgil Van Dijk heading home the winner deep into stoppage time. Will they do their business early against Everton or wait till the death to find a winner?

United is not in a good place; the stubbornness of their manager continues to haunt them, and Ruben Amorim has asked for the sack if his style doesn’t suit the club. With Chelsea up next, will anything change, or will it be business as usual?

Chelsea are away at Old Trafford; they have gone back-to-back games without a win after their late horror defending against Brentford and the 3-1 loss at Bayern Munich in midweek. The Blues need a result to halt the slide; they can’t afford to slip too far away from the top.

And the biggest one is the visit of City to the Emirates. Mikel Arteta beat Pep Guardiola in the league for the first time last season, and it was a landslide. Has Arteta turned the corner against his former boss? Pep Guardiola beat United silly last weekend; has City turned the corner too?

This is one game that could mean too much to the table. It’s too early for it to become a title decider but, a City win means Arsenal could go six points off the pace, is that a gap they can catch up on later? A loss for City means they now have problems beating Arsenal and would have their third defeat this season. Can the former champions afford that?
