It’s the pinnacle of European football; it’s the Champions League final at the Allianz Arena in Germany; it’s the battle of two teams chasing glory; it’s Inter Milan vs PSG.

The grand finale of European football this season pitches two teams on different wavelengths together for a fight like never before; it’s the 2010 champions up against a team that has never tasted glory in the Champions League before now, and it can swing anywhere.

Both teams deserve to be where they are; you can’t look past their journey, as they have both dispatched quality opponents to reach the final, and while PSG seeks to make it a treble, Inter Milan seeks a glorious end to a season of many “ifs”.

Inter Milan lost the league title to Napoli on the final day of the Italian Serie A season; they would later rue their missed chances in their penultimate game against Lazio, where they led twice before allowing Napoli to get away with their stalemate at Udinese.

For PSG, French Ligue 1 champions and the cup champions now seeking the holy grail, one which has eluded them too many times, and if there’s one thing the Al Khalefi dynasty craves badly, it is the sight of the magnificent Champions League trophy in their cabinet.

How did they get here? Inter Milan made it hard for themselves over two legs against Barcelona, losing leads and reclaiming them, dispatching the Spanish giants in fine fashion after a 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp, and finishing it off with what you can call a show at the San Siro, where they won 4-3.

PSG made light work of Arsenal over two legs, and they deserve all the respect in the world for it. How do you make Arsenal look ordinary after what the Gunners did to Real Madrid? A 1-0 away win was followed up by a 2-1 home success, and despite Arsenal’s dominance in Paris, PSG triumphed gallantly.

The finale will have bearings on the Ballon d’Or, with Ousmane Dembélé and Lautaro Martínez both in the running for the biggest individual honour in the sport. Either of them could be named best in the world depending on the result and their performance on the night.

Both will go for it; Inter Milan will conserve energy, but the defences will work hard. Inter Milan must find a way to stop the fleeting wingers of PSG, while the Parisians must find ways to cut supplies to Lautaro while ensuring they don’t lose sight of runnings in-behind by other Inter forwards.
