When Ruben Amorim took over at Manchester United from Erik Ten Hag, the Portuguese evaluated after his first training session and said boldly, “The storms will come.” What did he see?

You look at how bad United has become in recent games, and you begin to wonder what the first training session under Amorim looked like; did the boys appear like they’ve never seen the ball or played the sport before?

United has been ravaged by injuries, forcing Amorim to name a host of toddlers who had never tasted a second of senior football on the bench against Tottenham on Sunday, but is it enough to serve injuries on the excuse table?

You can argue that the Portuguese needs his own signings, but what is he doing with the resources at the club? Is he appearing to be too stubborn? Could he have adapted to manage things in recent times with the calibre of players he has available?

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou empathised with Amorim after beating the Red Devils 1-0 on Sunday, but he quickly reminded every ear listening that he’s been there and would want Amorim to rely on inexperienced kids for two months and see if he can cope.

Arsenal had to send midfielder Mikel Merino upfront to grind out a result at Leicester City on Saturday after four of their attackers got injured. Adapting to accommodate the players available, is it time for Amorim to start doing the same?

Tottenham failed to adapt when they had a lot of stars missing and it led them closer to the relegation zone than the top six; Arne Slot understands his squad limitation which is in depth, he tweaked the Liverpool formation to allow the players conserve energy while retaining control, adaptation is possible.

United has only won four of their fourteen games under Ruben Amorim; it’s a huge reason to be worried, and something must be done before United becomes a relegation candidate. They’re already at their lowest for decades, but shattering records isn’t new to the club since Sir Alex Ferguson left.

Amorim wanted Marcus Rashford gone after both fell apart; the club found solutions for that, and the England winger is now at Aston Villa. Amorim didn’t think there was anything good in Antony; the Brazilian has found his feet at Real Betis. Is Manchester United the problem?
