Chelsea is currently seventh on the Premier League standings but could end the day in 4th, which would be two points above reigning champions and just a point behind Nottingham Forest in third.

This looks good on paper, but if you consider the form of the Blues, which has seen them win only once in their last five games, you’ll be worried for Enzo Maresca and his Chelsea side. This is an opportunity for them to find their mojo; there won’t be excuses.

Southampton is destined for the drop; it’s impossible for them to find their way out of this hole they find themselves in. Is it time for them to start preparing for life in the Championship League where they came from?

How did it get this bad for the Saints? Did they wait for too long before changing managers? Whichever way you choose to look at it, it’s tough to see a way out for Southampton and, every fixture from this point would only lead them on the road to relegation.

Both sides have an identical run in their respective last five games. Their respective last wins came in the same game week, 23, where Chelsea beat West Ham 2-1 and Southampton beat fellow strugglers Ipswich 2-1 away from home, and they have both lost their last three. It’s a game between two strugglers.

It's easy to look into the Saints’ squad to understand their struggles; the quality available to them isn’t enough to pull their weight in the Premier League, but what is Chelsea’s excuse for performing woefully every game day?

In the loss to Aston Villa, Enzo Maresca deployed Pedro Neto in the centre forward position; it worked well in the first half, but the cookie crumbled in the second. Christopher Nkunku is the other option in that regard. Will the Italian reverse things?

Southampton has nothing to lose, so they can see this one as a free hit. They will line up with three at the back; defending deep is important, and making sure they keep an eye on Cole Palmer, they could be eyeing a major scalp here.

Speaking of Cole Palmer, the former Manchester City lad has lost steam and is struggling to reach the heights of last season. The team is underperforming, and it’s affecting the England playmaker. Will he find his spark in this one?

Verdict: Chelsea to win.
