Happy New Year, everyone! In the new year, Arsenal is determined to continue where they left off in 2024, while their hosts are eager to resume their winning ways at home.

The Bees have enjoyed the best home record of the new season; they have only suffered one home defeat this term, and they would like to start the year on a high with the Gunners in town. It won’t be as straightforward as they’d love.

Arsenal has accomplished a lot in 2024, winning the most games and accruing the most points, but they will always remember the game against Villa at home last season, where they fell short in crucial moments, and they haven't capitalised on Manchester City's mistakes this season, which must hurt deeply.

This game is between two teams with different ambitions. One is trying to find rhythm for the title race, and the other wants to break into European places. The former is more likely to succeed.

To move up to tenth on the log, Brentford must beat more teams than Arsenal, who only face Liverpool. It’s a long ride, and as both sides complete their first halves of the season, a win here would be the only target.

Brentford enjoyed a special night on their return to the Premier League three years ago, beating the Gunners 2-0 on the opening day of the season. They haven’t beaten Arsenal since then, so they would love another special night against the Gunners.

Arsenal is eager to improve their performance in 2024, as it is their only chance to compete for the Premier League title. Bukayo Saka's injury necessitates Arsenal's active participation in the January window, and until then, they must adjust their strategy to accommodate the available players.

Mark Flekken could return after limping off against Brighton, and Ben Mee should be available to face the Gunners. Arsenal has been considering Bryan Mbeumo as a potential signing for this January; he may have a live audition tonight.

Gabriel Martinelli is the one with all the attention right now in the absence of Saka. Gabriel Jesus has five goals in his last three games; Arsenal needs him now more than ever while the midfield battle will also be key. Mikel Arteta must keep things simple in his selection.

Verdict: Arsenal is to win.
