It’s that busy period of the season, loved by fans of the Premier League and dreaded by players who must negotiate back-to-back games with a short recovery time.

Players have come out publicly to threaten strike actions with the rise of anterior cruciate ligament issues, but December has always been a busy one in the Premier League. We love it; they make it happen, and with Manchester City trying to find their mojo again, we say let the month begin!

Nottingham Forest clawed things back after back-to-back defeats at home to Newcastle and away at Arsenal, but this one is big. They have witnessed the champions suffer unbelievable defeats in six of their seven games; will they emerge victorious?

There are three other big fixtures on Wednesday, with Manchester United’s trip to the Emirates ranking high on the list; however, what Manchester City does at the Etihad is important to the log and to the title race; they must respond on Wednesday.

Everyone believes they only need one win to get back on track, but Forest can inflict more misery on them to crush what's left of their dreams.

The use of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga on the flanks has yielded great dividends in the past for the visitors, and they just might deploy the same again when they visit Manchester City. Chris Wood’s form is inspiring; will he do it again against the champions?

Who would have thought that at this stage of the league season, Manchester City would be fifth on the log and only one point above Nottingham Forest? On the flip side, the Cityzens can also see the game as their turnaround point; this might spell doom for the visitors.

Since telling Mikel Arteta to be humble, Erling Haaland has only scored one league goal; he needs to regain his footing in the box after blanking consecutive games. His brace in the Champions League against Feyenoord was of no use, as City eventually lost their three-goal lead.

With Jeremy Doku back, City can start quickly with the Belgian and Savinho at the other end. With Phil Foden yet to impress, Kevin De Bruyne may finally get a start. Ilkay Gundogan isn’t the same player anymore, and the loss of Rodri is still hurting their midfield. Can Guardiola find answers?

Verdict: Manchester City to win.
