The English Premier League has entered the ever-busy month of December, where most teams will play at least seven games before the end of the year.

Arsenal moved two points clear at the top of the log with a 2-1 win over Wolves at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. It was a routine win; Arsenal dominated roundly, and Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard came up with the goods, but the Gunners turned a comfortable affair into a tumultuous one in the end.

It was the same for Manchester United at St. James’s Park. Newcastle found ways to tactically maneuver over the Red Devils, moving above Erik Ten Hag’s side on the log after Anthony Gordon fired one past Andre Onana in the United goal.

It’s borderline bipolar for United now. One moment you think they know what they’re doing, and the next, you see them playing like there’s nothing at stake with Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes coming under fire, but you have to give it to Newcastle because, despite their injury woes, they’re surging on.

Burnley scored five goals in the Premier League for the first time in their history, but Sheffield United should give up now. How do you concede five goals in a relegation six-pointer? Oliver McBurnie got sent off; he should bury his head in shame, but the Blades should start preparing for life in the championship.

Chelsea defied the odds to beat Brighton on Sunday. Connor Gallagher got his marching orders after an unintelligent tackle, the second red card Chelsea received in back-to-back games after Reece James saw red against Newcastle.

Enzo Fernandes and Levi Colwill scored their first goals for Chelsea, but Facundo Buonanotte curled one home before the end of the first half to worry the home fans. Roberto Di Zerbi made changes at the start of the second half, but it was Chelsea who scored again. Fernandes fired home from the spot to make it 3-1.

Joao Pedro scored from a corner to make it 3-2, setting up a grand-stand finish. After the referee blew the full-time whistle, there was a melee because the Seagulls believed they had a penalty at the death, but VAR overruled it.

The game of the day was played at Anfield. Liverpool had to come down from 3-2 down with less than ten minutes on the clock to win 4-3; it was going away from them, but they rallied thanks to a neat finish by the Etihad hero, Trent Alexander Arnold.

Liverpool scored four sensational goals. The first eventually went down as an own goal after replays showed Alexander Arnold’s freekick went in off Bernd Leno after hitting the crossbar. Fulham levelled; Alexis Mac Allister scored a belter to make it 2-1, but Fulham levelled again through Kenny Tete.

With the game winding down, Bobby Decorva Reid headed home from close range, and it seemed like Liverpool would surrender their home form. Endo Wataru blasted home off a simple Mohammed Salah pass before Alexander Arnold measured one in off a deflection to hand Liverpool the win.
