The first round of weekend games in the Premier League served us quality fun as always, with goals flying in across multiple grounds and records entering the bin for good.

Sheffield United lost again, this time to a team that would probably be around them on the log when the curtain is drawn in May.

Nottingham Forest scored late to beat the Blades at the City Ground, with Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi scoring for the sixth straight game, a record for Forest.

Liverpool came from behind to beat Bournemouth 3-1, but Alexis MacAllister saw red in his first home game in front of the Kops.

Semenyo opened the scoring for the visitors, and Luis Dias levelled with a crisp volley before Mohammed Salah handed Liverpool the lead from a rebound after missing a penalty.

Diogo Jota stabbed home another rebound shortly after the Argentine World Cup winner was sent off for an early bath.

Bournemouth can take some positives from the game, with their 9-0 annihilation from last season on the same ground still fresh in mind.

Brighton scored four and conceded one again.

The Wolves were quite pathetic as a team in the opening stages, as Kaoru Mitoma danced through to score a brilliant solo goal before setting up Pervis Estupinian for the second goal early in the second half.

Solly March rolled the third home, and the same player did the honours moments later to make it four before Hwang Chan scored a consolation goal for the hosts.

Nelson Semedo saw red after a careless push in the Brighton area later on.

Fulham lost at home to Brentford, and Tim Ream also got sent off.

Yoane Wissa was presented with a gift in the closing stages of the first half, and he danced around Bernd Leno for the opener.

Bryan Mbeumo scored from the spot to make it two, and the Cameroonian made it three with a simple tap-in at the death.

Tottenham beat Man United at Spurs’ new ground for the first time, and Erik Ten Hag must have a lot to say in that regard.

Man United protested after VAR denied them a penalty with Christian Romero handling in the area as they settled for a goalless draw in the first half.

Spurs came out smoking in the second as Papa Sarr got on the end of a Dejan Kulusevski cross to stab home his first in Spurs colours.

Lisandro Martinez diverted a Ben Davis pass past Andre Onana to complete the 2-0 scoreline.

Manchester City won again on home soil, setting another record of consecutive wins at home with a 1-0 win over Newcastle.

The Geordies had chances but couldn’t punish the champions, who won through a brilliant Julian Alvarez strike in the first half after neat work from Phil Foden.
