Manchester United has distanced the club from young defender Brandon Williams after he made derogatory remarks about Manchester City’s treble on Saturday.
The 22-year-old has found it hard to break into Erik Ten Hag’s side and has only made 51 appearances for the Manchester side since his senior debut in 2019.
The likes of Luke Shaw and Tyrel Malacia are ahead of the England youngster, but he may have put himself into further trouble.
Williams posted on his Instagram story after City beat Inter Milan 1-0 at the Ataturk Stadium in Turkey and aimed jibes at the treble winners.
The insensitive message reads, "Nobody wants sloppy seconds." And the club has frowned at it.
Williams went further to attack club legend Rio Ferdinand, who was on duty at the stadium as a BT Sport pundit.
The legendary defender praised Manchester City as an immortal team after their feat, but the youngster seemed to have issues with that.
The young defender (Williams) wrote: "@rioferdy5 Bet you don't congratulate if you was player keep the same morals. too face is boring." He continued: "You don't praise simple as. Fakessssssssss for [money emoji]."
Manchester United refused to comment on the development, but close sources report that the club is furious with Williams and will not stand in his defence.
United is believed to be monitoring Axel Disasi and Napoli’s Kim Min-Jae as defensive options, which will further limit Williams’ chances.
The Cityzens are obviously not interested in the player’s jibes and spent the whole of Monday celebrating their triple.
On United’s part, the club’s priority is a star striker and a midfielder, with some names on their lips already.
