Liverpool has been a weird team all season, but whenever they play at home in front of their vociferous home crowd, they’re a different animal.

Arsenal has the best away record in the league, but what do they expect when they visit Anfield, the ground where City lost and United got a whipping of their lives? It’s a game Arsenal must win to restore an eight-point cushion over Manchester City; how will that play out?

Arsenal hasn’t picked up a point away from Liverpool in years, and they have conceded brutally each time they head to that side of Merseyside.

But this season, Arsenal already won at Tottenham for the first time since 2012 and also beat Liverpool in the reverse fixture.

Liverpool’s form is indifferent. Out of Europe and cup competitions and only focusing on their hopes of returning to the Champions League via the league, if that is ever going to happen with United, Newcastle, and Spurs in the race, they must beat Arsenal on Sunday.

The duo of Tiago Alcantara and Luis Diaz are believed to be back in training and could be involved against the Gunners, while Arsenal continue to rely on Rob Holding in the absence of William Saliba, who’s suffering from a back problem.

Mohammed Salah is having an underwhelming season by his own high standards, but you won’t put it past him to hurt Arsenal on days like this. Diogo Jota is another player that seems to come alive whenever Arsenal is on the menu; will he have a full day again?

On paper, it is Liverpool’s to lose considering their antecedents, but where can Arsenal hurt their hosts?

Trent Alexander Arnold is a suspect with his usual high line defence, but he’s also a threat on the break and set pieces.

Gabriel Martinelli could exploit his weaknesses while also helping Alex Zinchenko with defence.

Bukayo Saka will do well to keep Andy Robertson quiet. Ben White’s stock is rising on the right side of the defence; here’s a game for him to prove he’s good enough to give Gareth Southgate enough selection headaches in the future.

The game would be won and lost in the middle of the park. Henderson, Fabinho, and Harvey Elliot are the expected names in the middle for Liverpool.

How can they overcome the trio of Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka, and club captain Martin Odegaard?

It is Arsenal’s most important game for now as they seek to take it one game at a time; if you ever want to win the Premier League, these are the types of games you excel at.

Verdict: Liverpool to win
