Reports from Stamford Bridge confirm that Chelsea Football Club has hired Frank Lampard as their interim manager until the end of the season following the sacking of Graham Potter last weekend.

Bruno Salter, the former Brighton player, took charge of the goalless draw against Liverpool, but the club is hiring the club legend and record goalscorer until the end of the season, when a substantive manager would take over.

How fans will react to this development is left to be seen, considering the availability of Julien Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino.

The former Everton manager will be in charge this weekend when the Blues travel to Molineux to play the Wolves before the Champions League duel with Real Madrid.

Following a string of poor performances that kept the Toffees in the relegation zone, Everton fired Lampard earlier in January.

Former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole was also appointed as Lampard's assistant.
