The World Cup is over and while it’s hard for us to forget in a hurry, we’ll look at some hot talking points in league football that have already resumed following league cup games on Tuesday with premier league clubs finding joy against lower league oppositions.

Pele in critical condition

It has been confirmed that football legend and one of those that have been thrown into the greatest of all time conversation, Pele will spend Christmas and possibly the New Year’s Day celebration at the hospital following his critical health condition.

Lying in the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo, the 82-year-old is believed to be suffering from advanced cancer and he will be under “elevated care” as he continues to battle kidney and respiratory organs issues.

United surge past Burnley

Cup games can serve the best of upsets but Manchester United ensured such won’t be said of them in their Carabao Cup fixture on Wednesday as the Red Devils beat Burnley 2-0 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the cup game.

Christian Eriksen scored from close range off a sensational beauty of a cutback by wantaway right back Aaron Wan Bissaka before Marcus Rashford added the second later in the game. Burnley gave a good fight but they live to fight another day.

Sevilla, Isco go separate ways

Former Real Madrid playmaker Isco has terminated his contract with Sevilla and is now a free agent. The Spanish midfielder endured a torrid time with the La Liga side and has now mutually ended the affair that promised so much but delivered too little.

Real Madrid refused to renew Isco’s contract and he left for free to join Sevilla but injuries and poor form meant he couldn’t make his mark. A move to the premier league is possible but few La Liga clubs, including Real Sociedad, are looking at him.
