It’s Merseyside up against Manchester, a resurgent Everton side against a Manchester United side that needs to respond after last weekend’s decimation…

Everton had a terrible start to life in the league and only recently picked their first win of the season but they have a stingy defense, which means they don’t concede so much even if they don’t do anything meaningful at the other end.

Jordan Pickford has been the shining light in the Everton team, the acquisitions of Connor Coady from Wolves and James Tarkowski from Burnley have rejuvenated their defense, it looks promising for the Toffees from here on.

Manchester United was brought back to planet earth after four straight wins including victories over Liverpool and Arsenal; conceding six to their neighbors wasn’t in the script but their midweek showing in the champions league also left too much to be desired.

The Brazilian Anthony and the Frenchman Anthony Martial have added bite to the Red Devils and Marcus Rashford is hitting form at the right time; Rashford was anonymous at the Etihad last weekend but was on top of it when he came on as a sub in their Europa League win away in Cyprus.

Everton can go for it in this game to earn maximum points. The form of Alex Iwobi is a thing of joy for frank Lampard and alongside Onana in midfield, they can trouble the visitors but they also must be wary of the counter-attacking football on offer from United.

There will also be conversations around Cristiano Ronaldo, he certainly hasn’t played his last game for United but no one can say for sure that he’d be at the club after the World Cup. Eric Ten Hag will give him another opportunity to score his 700^th club goal but will he take it at Goodison Park?
