Chelsea sweat on the transfer of Brighton left back Cucurella, and reportedly want to sign Aubameyang from Barcelona

The current transfer window has to be the most excruciating ever for Chelsea fans. The acquisition of Napoli defender Khalidou Koulibaly doesn’t placate their defensive weaknesses following the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.

The Blues have tried in vain to land a number of players including Raphinha, Gabriel Jesus, Ousman Dembele, Robert Lewandowski, Frenkie De Jong and Joules Kounde with majority of these players ending up at Barcelona and as it stands, the frustration continues on Marc Cucurella.

Chelsea already agreed terms with all parties involved on Wednesday only for Brighton to release a statement denying the agreement.

Chelsea would fear another heartbreak with the player somewhat interested in Barcelona and would outrightly prefer Manchester City if the offer comes.

News breaking out of the media on Thursday is that the Blues are now eyeing former Arsenal striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang as the man to lead their front line and you wonder if that’s an attempt to get one over Barcelona or just a rollercoaster move.

The Blues need reinforcements ahead of the league season that starts tomorrow but that must also come in form of a proper football director. 

Todd Boehly can’t continue negotiating deals by himself; throwing money at the problem every time won’t lead Chelsea anywhere but we’d wait to see what happens before the window closes.
