Manchester United have seen a bid of £7m rejected for former Stoke City and Westham forward Marko Arnautovic, Sky Sports can confirm.
The Bologna forward is a shock name on Manchester United’s transfer list.
And one must wonder if it’s becoming a pattern or Manchester United has actually lost the glory in their rich history considering they signed Radamel Falcao, Odion Ighalo and Edison Cavani all on the wrong side of 30.
33-year-old Arnautovic would be flattered by the bid but his brother – his agent has confirmed the bid and would discuss with Bologna to allow the player join United even as the Old Trafford side remains confident in the deal.
United lost to Brighton on Sunday in their league opener and seems desperate to bolster their weak squad with news breaking out of Italy that the club have reached an agreement with Juventus on the transfer of AdrianRabiot who has one year left on his contract.
With Anthony Martial now injured and Cristiano Ronaldo's future uncertain, Manchester United is searching for other forward options.
They continue to be interested in RB Salzburg attacker Benjamin Sesko, but a difficult deal seems likely.
Therefore, Ten Hag is eager to sign Arnautovic, who can play on the wing or in the middle.
The Dutchman was asked about the 33-year-old after United's 2-1 loss to Brighton on Sunday at Old Trafford, the manager's first competitive match in charge.
"I don't go into names because I think in this pre-season 250 players are involved or linked with Manchester United, so that's it," he said. "We have two strikers, maybe a third one, with Marcus Rashford as well.
