The biggest news in the transfer world as we speak is Cristiano Ronaldo’s quest to walk away from his Old Trafford contract and those that are close to the club have established that it’s not another rumor but a fact with many parts.

Should United have even brought back their super star in the first instance? That will forever be hard to answer but what is quite easy to say is the fact that United only brought him back because they didn’t want him to go to Manchester City from Juventus.

18 goals last season and certainly the best performer outside David De Gea, there was a good return for his wages beyond commercial value but what else did the Portuguese star offer United? The pedigree he brought got many pundits tipping United for glory but they ended up with their worst ever points tally in premier league history.

How did United fare on talent development front? Many forwards didn’t blossom because of Ronaldo’s presence and while some would point at Anthony Elanga and Mason Greenwood – before he was incarcerated on sexual assault grounds, it’s hard to say how exactly they benefitted from Ronaldo’s presence.

A source reveals that Eric Ten Hag is low-key happy that Ronaldo wants to leave, he would be able to build his team around the midfield and not exactly playing to the strength of the star man; you can look at Bruno Fernandes and wonder why he fell off last season, the Ronaldo effect?

Paul Pogba is out of the club now and that is one less body to worry about but as we speak, not a single player has been added. Frenkie De Jong is still stalling and the Lisandro Martinez deal still hasn’t been agreed, doesn’t all these justify Ronaldo’s decision to walk?

Marcus Rashford has been underwhelming for a long while and you can’t blame the club for deprioritizing him, the investment on Jadon Sancho hasn’t paid off in any way and Harry Maguire is still the man in the heart of their defense, what is Ten Hag’s plan?

If Ronaldo leaves United today, where is he headed? Back to Juventus? They like fine wine over there but there’s also a possibility of him replacing Lewandowski in Bayern Munich; is there a possibility of him going to PSG? He wouldn’t want to ruin his United legacy so that rules out Chelsea as City already got Erling Haaland.

The league starts soon but the Ronaldo situation is one to watch; he wants more silverwares and he’s not ready to call it quit yet, but what would become of United when their super star leaves for the second and definitely… the last time?
