The football season across Europe is winding down, and the title run-in is getting more interesting in some leagues while it has been wrapped up in others; we look at a few talking points with transfers heating up ahead of summer businesses.
Chelsea is set to get new owners, but things won’t be the
The biggest news of the year so far in league club
management must be the situation of Chelsea’s former owner Roman Abramovic, but
the club is now set to have a new owner, all things being equal in the coming
However, don’t expect a splash immediately with debts to be
taken care of and players’ contracts sorted. The pursuit of Erling Haaland has
already been laid to rest with the Norwegian headed for Manchester City,
players will leave, and not many will join; where will that leave Chelsea on
Westham and Leicester fail at the final hurdles.
The hopes of premier league sides in the alternative European
competitions were dashed on Thursday night as Leicester City lost away to Jose
Mourinho’s AS Roma and Westham fell away at Frankfurt following Aaron Cresswell’s
indiscretions early in the game.
The Foxes only needed a draw to force extra time, but an
early Tammy Abraham header settled the contest while the sending off of
Cresswell aided the home side’s bid. Westham now has it all to do to qualify
for Europe through the league after slipping out of the top four contentions
and dangerously placed for Europa.
Mikel Arteta signs an Arsenal contract extension.
Arsenal has announced that they have extended the contract
of manager Mikel Arteta for another two years after an impressive season that
could see the club return to champions league football next season.
The Gunners currently sit fourth on the table and only need
to match Tottenham’s results in the remaining fixtures to complete a fine
season after their horrendous start and occasional blips. Arteta will now be in
charge until 2025 at least.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic offers self to Mino Raiola’s services
Following the tragic death of football agent Mino Raiola,
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has hinted that he could be interested in joining the
Italian’s business after he leaves AC Milan in the summer.
The 41year old doesn’t look like extending his contract at
AC Milan on expiration this summer, he has decided to look elsewhere, and that
would be in the direction of a football agency; Raiola was the agent of the
Swede while he was alive, and Zlatan would like to take it up from there.
Cavani to leave United, Ekitike in?
Edison Cavani has confirmed that he lost faith in the United
project after the club signed Cristiano Ronaldo, and he has only played a few
games since the Portuguese joined, but that has been due to his constant injury
Erik Ten Hag, the club’s incoming manager, has identified
Hugo Ekitike and Darwin Nunez as the replacements for the Uruguayan, who is set
to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the current season.
