Manchester City’s Phil Foden and his family were involved in a scuffle after a boxing match on Saturday involving Amir Khan and Kell Brook at the Manchester Arena.
A video surfaced on social media of the Manchester City playmaker reacting to a group of people who harassed him and his family members that accompanied him to the much advertised boxing match but the champions have thrown their support behind their player and his family.
City released an official statement after the incident that happened at a corridor in the building shortly after Brook won the match in the sixth round, saying they’re “shocked and appalled” by the incident and they’re investigating.
One or two eye witnesses suggested Foden was under the influence of alcohol but the club has thrown their weights behind their star player, and looking at how they can lend him and his family their broad shoulders.
"The club is aware of a video which has circulated on social media showing Phil Foden and his family being harassed and abused," City said in a statement Sunday.
Greater Manchester Police have promised to proactively look into the matter despite not being officially inundated. Foden attended the event just hours after his team lost to Tottenham 3-2 at the Etihad, he has scored nine times in 27 appearances this season.
