The one that truly knows, having been there done that at Old Trafford, Sir Alex Ferguson has said Cristiano Ronaldo should have started the game between Manchester United and Everton instead of being a second half substitute.

It was a bit of a shock on Saturday in the premier league when the team sheet was released and the five time Ballon D’Or winner was left on the bench, in the end the points were shared at Old Trafford with the visitors scoring late but chalked off for offside for what would have been their winner.

Manchester United have now dropped points at home three times, in a run of just two wins in six games, leaving United struggling in their Champions League group as well as falling slightly off the pace in the premier league.

In a viral social media video, Ferguson was heard telling mixed martial great, Khabib Nurmagomedov that Everton were handed a lifeline with the decision to bench Ronaldo by Ole Gunnar Solksjaer with the talented Nurmagomedov saying “you always field your best players” when Ronaldo came on.

Solskjaer defended his decision to rest Ronaldo, saying post-match: "You make decisions throughout a long, long season, and you've got to manage the players' workload, and the decision was, for me, the correct one today."

"Anthony Martial did well, scored a good goal; Edison Cavani needed minutes, he got an hour, could have had a goal, a great cross and a great chance for him," Solskjaer said. "We have to make those decisions sometimes."

The stalemate left United with 14 points, just two points off Chelsea at the top and will play Leicester City when the league resumes in a fortnight, after the second international break of the season.
