As widely reported recently, Louis van Gaal has been appointed manager of the Netherlands for the third time.

Following Frank de Boer's departure in the aftermath of Holland's last-16 loss at Euro 2020, the former Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Ajax head coach has been given his third tenure in charge of the national team.

Van Gaal, who coached the Netherlands from 2000 to 2002 and led them to third place in the 2014 World Cup, will remain in charge until the 2022 World Cup in Qatar next year.

"Dutch football has always been close to my heart and coaching the national team is, in my opinion, a key position for moving our football forward. Moreover, I consider it an honour to coach the Dutch national team," Van Gaal said in a statement.

Former national team coach Danny Blind and Sparta Rotterdam's Henk Fraser have been selected as Van Gaal's assistants, with Frans Hoek taking over as goalkeeper coach.
