The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped three places in the October edition of the monthly FIFA rankings, official news stated from football headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland on Thursday.

Qualifying games for the 2022 Fifa World Cup, the play-offs for the UEFA Euro 2021 and UEFA Nations League ties were determinants in the rankings as well as international friendlies and on that ground as it affects Nigeria.

Contrasting results against North African sides, Algeria and Tunisia means there’s nothing to count as an advantage for the 2013 AFCON champions.

Nigeria lost 1-0 to Algeria in Austria and were forced to a 1-1 draw by Tunisia four days later, a game where Kelechi Iheanacho missed from the penalty spot to deny Nigeria a win.

Just last month, the Super Eagles were ranked 29th by the football ruling body but are now 32nd in the latest edition.

Three time African chmapions, Nigeria are now fourth in Africa behind 2019 Africa Cup of Nations runners-up, Senegal, who accrued 1549 points, Tunisia [1507] and reigning African champions, the Desert Foxes who garnered 1488 points.

It would be noted that Nigeria were third on the rankings before the latest rankings was released, Cameroon is fifth in Africa, closely followed by Egypt in sixth

For the world rankings, Belgium remains on top after garnering points in the just concluded FIFA international football window.

Brazil are third behind reigning world champions France, World Cup semifinalists, England are in fourth and reigning European champions, Portugal completes the top five in the world.

The next rankings will be released on the 26th of November.
