Match report: Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea | Wenger's day in history

For the first time in the history of premier league Arsene Wenger has bested his worst nemesis Jose Mourinho.

The traditional curtain raiser for the new premier league season, the Community Shield swung in the favor of the North Londoners, a 24th minute screamer from the player Mourinho coveted from the Arsenal fold decided the encounter, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain fired into the far corner beyond the reach of Thibaut Coutouis, history is made, records shattered and precedence being set at the altar of glory.

The opening exchanges went back and forth, fearless Arsenal seem to have it all to do until the Chelsea players balanced the affair as the game hit the quarter of an hour mark. Arsene Wenger, who had failed in his previous thirteen attempts against Chelsea, had to make do without Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere who sustained an ankle knock just before the match.

Mourinho on the other hand was without Diego Costa, who could miss out on the opening game of the season, the game afforded all football fans the rare sights of Petr Cech lining up between the sticks of Arsenal, and he proved the difference with spectacular saves especially the one off the boots of Oscar in the 68th minute.

Just when Chelsea were on the rise in the game, disaster struck, Mesut Ozil whipped in a delicate through ball to Theo Walcott who was starting up front for Arsenal ahead of Olivier Giroud, the former teed up Oxlade Chamberlain who cut inside Chelsea's Azpilicueta before firing into the top corner, that was Arsenal's first goal against Chelsea since January 2013.

Chamberlain had another chance as the half wears out but he fired wide.

Mourinho sent in Falcao to make his official debut for Chelsea in place of the ineffective Loic Remy and soon after Oscar in place of Ramires, it was Oscar who would test his former teammate in Arsenal's goal with a curly strike from a free kick, Petr Cech responded with a fine save.

Arsenal produced a commanding defensive display that absolved everything Chelsea threw at them, all the mind games Jose Mourinho launched didn't amount to nothing as Arsenal saw off the match in fine fashion and retained the community shield they won last season, is this a sign of what to look forward to by Arsenal fans? Let the season begin.
