Three competitions. One cup final. One title race. This is not a normal weekend of European football, it is a week-long stress test that starts on Friday night and does not stop until Tuesday.
Arsenal can tighten their grip on the Premier League title race if results go their way.
City and Chelsea meet at Wembley for the FA Cup final on Saturday.
Aston Villa and Liverpool meet in a Champions League six-pointer at Villa Park. Somebody’s season is ending badly.
Across Europe, Barca are already champions and enjoying the parade. Inter have the Scudetto wrapped up. Bayern are champions in Germany.
But the Champions League race is still alive in England, Italy and Germany, which means this weekend still has teeth.
By Tuesday night, we will know who has lifted the FA Cup, who has moved closer to Europe, and who is pretending they are not panicking.
Premier League
Aston Villa vs Liverpool (Friday, May 15, 8pm)
This was supposed to be just another late-season Premier League game. It is not.
Villa and Liverpool are level on 59 points, with Champions League football sitting right there for whoever can hold their nerve.
Villa Park will be loud, Emery will smell blood, and Liverpool cannot afford another loose performance after that 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
Salah’s fitness is a huge talking point, while Villa’s midfield injuries could shape the whole game.
This is the biggest Premier League match of the weekend, and it deserves the Friday night lights.
Villa have had a strong season, but Liverpool still carry more final-third quality. The problem is that Slot’s side do not look calm enough to walk into Villa Park and control everything for 90 minutes. This has chaos written all over it.
Prediction: Aston Villa 2-2 Liverpool
Footballnus Pick: Both teams to score. Neither defence looks trustworthy enough for a clean sheet.
Man United vs Nottingham Forest (Sunday, May 17, 12:30pm)
United are third and somehow still feel like a team one bad result away from a group chat trial.
Forest are safe, but their season has already lost some edge after their European disappointment.
At Old Trafford, United should have too much. It may not be pretty, because United rarely do pretty without making it look like an accident.
Prediction: Man United 2-0 Nottingham Forest
Footballnus Pick: Man United win. Forest should compete, but United have more to play for.
Brentford vs Crystal Palace (Sunday, May 17, 3pm)
Brentford have had a strong season and still look like one of the most annoying teams to face when they get their pressing right.
Palace are safe, but they can still hurt teams when they attack space properly.
This feels like a tight London game where set-pieces and second balls matter. Brentford should edge it at home.
Prediction: Brentford 2-1 Crystal Palace
Footballnus Pick: Brentford win. Home advantage and physical edge should count.
Everton vs Sunderland (Sunday, May 17, 3pm)
Everton at home late in the season usually means emotion, noise and at least one tackle that reminds you football used to be a contact sport.
Sunderland are safe, but they will not come just to clap politely.
This could be scrappy. Everton need to give their fans something to hold onto.
Prediction: Everton 1-1 Sunderland
Footballnus Pick: Draw. Everton rarely make these games simple.
Leeds United vs Brighton (Sunday, May 17, 3pm)
Leeds are safe and can play with freedom.
Brighton still have European ambitions, but they are dealing with injury issues and cannot afford to turn this into one of those wasteful away days.
Brighton should dominate the ball, but Leeds will make it uncomfortable.
This will not be a clean 90 minutes.
Prediction: Leeds United 1-2 Brighton
Footballnus Pick: Brighton win. Their attacking structure should create enough chances.
Wolves vs Fulham (Sunday, May 17, 3pm)
Wolves are already down, and that usually creates one of two things: freedom or complete rubbish.
Fulham are safe and have enough quality to control the game if they take it seriously.
This has end-of-season draw energy. Not glamorous. Just there.
Prediction: Wolves 1-1 Fulham
Footballnus Pick: Draw. Wolves may still find one final home response.
Newcastle vs West Ham (Sunday, May 17, 5:30pm)
Newcastle have had a strange season, but St James’ Park still carries weight.
West Ham need points and cannot afford another passive away performance.
The problem for West Ham is simple: desperation does not fix defensive gaps.
Newcastle should punish them if the crowd gets into it early.
Prediction: Newcastle 2-1 West Ham
Footballnus Pick: Newcastle win. West Ham’s away form makes them hard to trust.
Arsenal vs Burnley (Monday, May 18, 8pm)
Arsenal are chasing the title. Burnley are fighting to avoid ending the season as a weekly punchline.
This is exactly the kind of game the Gunners cannot overcomplicate.
If Arsenal start fast, this could get ugly.
Burnley need a miracle, and even miracles would probably ask to sit this one out.
Prediction: Arsenal 4-0 Burnley
Footballnus Pick: Arsenal win comfortably. This is the safest result on the board.
BANKER OF THE WEEKEND: Arsenal to beat Burnley.
The title race gives Arsenal all the motivation they need. Burnley do not have enough quality to make this a proper argument.
Bournemouth vs Man City (Tuesday, May 19, 7:30pm)
City have no room for error.
Bournemouth have been one of the awkward teams of the season, and this is exactly the type of game where the title race starts messing with people’s legs.
City should win, but do not expect a stroll. Bournemouth are too organised to roll over.
Prediction: Bournemouth 1-2 Man City
Footballnus Pick: Man City win. Pressure will be heavy, but City still have the better match-winners.
Chelsea vs Spurs (Tuesday, May 19, 8:15pm)
Chelsea and Spurs in the same sentence usually means chaos is already warming up.
Chelsea need a finish that makes the season look less ridiculous.
Spurs need points, pride and probably therapy.
London derbies rarely care about form. Still, Chelsea at home should have enough to hurt this Spurs side.
Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Spurs
Footballnus Pick: Both teams to score. Both teams have enough attacking quality and enough defensive nonsense.
FA Cup Final
Chelsea vs Manchester City (Saturday, May 16, 3pm — Wembley)
This is Chelsea’s biggest game of the season.
The league campaign has been messy, the performances have been inconsistent, and lifting the FA Cup would at least give the fans something real to defend.
City are the better side. That is not a hot take.
That is just watching football without lying to yourself. But finals are strange, and Chelsea have enough individual quality to make this uncomfortable if they survive the first 25 minutes.
Haaland will be the obvious threat, but Chelsea’s midfield has to be brave. If they sit too deep, City will squeeze them until something breaks.
Prediction: Chelsea 1-2 Man City
Footballnus Pick: Man City win. Chelsea can compete, but City have more control and more finishers.
La Liga
Barca are champions and in celebration mode.
Real Madrid are playing for pride, which is usually another way of saying the standards have slipped and everyone is pretending not to notice.
Barcelona vs Real Betis (Sunday, May 17)
Barca’s first home game after winning the title should feel like a party.
Betis are still strong enough to make them work, but this is the kind of night where Barca’s forwards will want to entertain.
Prediction: Barcelona 3-1 Real Betis
Footballnus Pick: Barca win. The champions should put on a show.
Sevilla vs Real Madrid (Sunday, May 17)
Madrid are not winning the league, but they still have too much pride to drift through this.
Sevilla will try to make it ugly, because that is usually the only sensible plan against Madrid.
Prediction: Sevilla 1-2 Real Madrid
Footballnus Pick: Real Madrid win. Not smooth, not emotional, just Madrid.
Atletico Madrid vs Girona (Sunday, May 17)
Atleti should win this on paper, but Girona are exactly the type of side that can annoy them between the lines.
If Atleti start slowly, the home crowd may get restless quickly.
Prediction: Atletico Madrid 1-1 Girona
Footballnus Pick: Draw. Girona have enough structure to frustrate Atleti.
UPSET SPECIAL: Girona to draw at Atletico Madrid.
Most people will lean Atleti at home. I am not buying it fully.
Girona are too tidy in possession, and Atleti have had enough uneven performances to make this dangerous.
Serie A
Inter are champions, but the race behind them is the real theatre.
Napoli, Milan, Juventus and Roma are all in the Champions League conversation, and Serie A has packed the key games into one Sunday morning slot. Very Italian. Very chaotic.
Roma vs Lazio (Sunday, May 17)
The Rome Derby is the biggest game of the weekend across Europe.
Not because it has the best football. Because it has the most danger.
Roma need points for the Champions League race.
Lazio would love nothing more than to ruin that dream. That is what derby rivals do.
They do not always need a trophy; sometimes damaging your neighbour’s season is enough.
This game will be decided by control.
If Roma keep their heads, they have enough to win. If Lazio turn it into a fight, the match becomes a coin toss with shin pads.
Prediction: Roma 2-1 Lazio
Footballnus Pick: Roma win. They have more to play for and enough edge to survive the derby noise.
Juventus vs Fiorentina (Sunday, May 17)
Juventus cannot afford a slip.
Fiorentina can be awkward, but Juve at home in a Champions League race should not need motivational posters.
Prediction: Juventus 2-0 Fiorentina
Footballnus Pick: Juventus win. Big clubs are supposed to handle this type of pressure.
Genoa vs AC Milan (Sunday, May 17)
Milan are still in the Champions League race, but they have spent too much of the season making simple jobs look complicated.
Genoa will slow the game down and test their patience.
Prediction: Genoa 1-1 AC Milan
Footballnus Pick: Draw. Milan are not reliable enough away from home.
Pisa vs Napoli (Sunday, May 17)
Napoli should win this if they play with focus.
Pisa are fighting, but Napoli have more quality in every key area.
Prediction: Pisa 0-2 Napoli
Footballnus Pick: Napoli win. This is not the game to waste points.
Inter vs Verona (Sunday, May 17)
Inter are champions and will have the trophy atmosphere around them.
Verona are walking into a party they were not invited to enjoy.
Prediction: Inter 3-0 Verona
Footballnus Pick: Inter win. Champions at home should not need a long explanation.
Bundesliga
Bayern are champions, but the final day still has European places to sort out.
The good thing about Bundesliga final days is simple: everyone kicks off together, so nobody gets to hide.
Bayern Munich vs FC Koln (Saturday, May 16)
Bayern at home on the final day, already champions, against Koln.
That is not a football match. That is a warning label.
Prediction: Bayern 4-1 FC Koln
Footballnus Pick: Bayern win. The title party should come with goals.
Werder Bremen vs Borussia Dortmund (Saturday, May 16)
Dortmund rarely do calm, even when calm is clearly available.
Bremen can score, but BVB have more firepower and should create enough chances.
Prediction: Werder Bremen 1-2 Borussia Dortmund
Footballnus Pick: Dortmund win. It may be stressful, because it is Dortmund.
SC Freiburg vs RB Leipzig (Saturday, May 16)
Freiburg have Europe on their mind, and Leipzig need to protect their own position.
This should be tight, physical and decided by small moments.
Prediction: Freiburg 1-2 RB Leipzig
Footballnus Pick: Leipzig win. Their final-third quality should decide it.
Eintracht Frankfurt vs VfB Stuttgart (Saturday, May 16)
Stuttgart are still fighting near the top end of the table, while Frankfurt can turn any home game into a long day.
This has goals written all over it.
Prediction: Eintracht Frankfurt 2-2 VfB Stuttgart
Footballnus Pick: Draw. Both sides carry threat, and both can leave space.
Borussia Monchengladbach vs Hoffenheim (Saturday, May 16)
Hoffenheim need a strong finish, and Gladbach are dangerous enough to spoil things if they are allowed rhythm.
This is a proper final-day trap.
Prediction: Borussia Monchengladbach 1-2 Hoffenheim
Footballnus Pick: Hoffenheim win. They have more at stake.
Back any of these? Let me know what you're going with this weekend.
