Manchester United vs Tottenham

Old Trafford
Kick-off: 1:30pm

It’s a great time to be a Manchester United fan again. All of a sudden, a top-four finish looks possible, and anyone facing the Red Devils now must be fully prepared; things are no longer the same at Old Trafford.

This is the same Manchester United side that struggled against Wolves, West Ham, and Burnley earlier in the season, teams that now sit near the bottom of the table. Yet they have since recorded impressive wins over league leaders Arsenal, title challengers Manchester City, and a crucial victory over Fulham when a draw seemed the likeliest outcome.

So, what has changed? The same players who once looked clueless under Ruben Amorim are now playing with confidence under Michael Carrick. The much-maligned 3-4-3 formation clearly wasn’t working, although the former Portuguese manager stuck with it before moving on. Carrick has brought clarity, balance, and belief back into the side.

This clash, however, isn’t only about Manchester United. Tottenham could still influence plenty this season, including the title race. Spurs currently sit 14th in the table, a worrying position for a club with European ambitions. Last season’s European silverware helped mask their 17th-place league finish, but this time around, they need real progress.

The chances of Tottenham lifting silverware this season appear slim. The usual “second-season Ange Postecoglou boost” hasn’t materialised, and they are nowhere near favourites in Europe. For Spurs, the priority must now be climbing the league table and restoring credibility.

United also has a fun subplot running among the fans. One supporter has promised a trip to the barber if United win two straight games, and standing in the way are two “Hams”, Tottenham and West Ham. First, the Red Devils must take care of Spurs at Old Trafford before travelling to face the Hammers.

How will they line up? Expect the hosts to go for this one. Carrick has blended discipline with experience, and as one of the club’s most decorated former players, he understands exactly what wearing the badge demands. United won’t sit back; they’ll look to impose themselves.

Their 2–2 draw in north London earlier this season still lingers in the memory. Richarlison thought he had won it after scoring and ripping off his shirt, only for Matthijs de Ligt to level at the death. This time, both sides know only a win will do. Liverpool and Chelsea are breathing down United’s neck, while Spurs desperately need points to climb the table.

Who should we watch? For United, Bruno Fernandes remains the heartbeat. Tottenham, meanwhile, will look to Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha to provide spark, though Spurs are still searching for leaders who can consistently stand up when it matters.

All signs point to a lively contest, a perfect way to kick off the weekend.

Verdict: Manchester United to win.
