Liverpool is the latest team to have Wolves on a plate. Despite the struggles of the champions this season, you expect them to take their three points and move on with the form of their opponents.

Wolves are on their way to becoming the worst ever team to feature in the Premier League. Wolves have only two points on the board this season, from two draws, and they have lost each of their last nine games; you expect them to lose this one as well.

Liverpool will be without their record signing, Alexander Isak, after his injury against Spurs, and in fact, he is not expected to feature until February at the earliest; this leaves all the workload on Hugo Ekitike, who has impressed greatly this season.

What exactly is the problem of Wolves this season? They sold too many players without replacing them rightly; the board isn’t investing in the club, as they expect the quality in the squad to keep them in the league. It doesn’t look like they’re spot on.

Liverpool can still throw their hats in the top four ring despite their recent dip. A win for the Kops at home against the worst team in Europe could take them up to fourth, especially if the Blues fail to win against Aston Villa this weekend.

It’s upward and forward for Liverpool now. With Wolves in town, you expect them to do their job cleanly and take the points. It’s almost too late for them to join the title race, as they currently sit ten points off the Gunners at the top, but they can crash into the top four and keep things moving.

How can Wolves earn anything from this game? It’s honestly tough to see. They nearly earned something at the Emirates against Arsenal, but eventually, their weaknesses showed up at the death as they put the ball in their own net twice to hand Arsenal the win.

Discipline is the first thing to discuss. Positional awareness and ball accountability are things you worry about when it comes to Wolves. They make silly mistakes and don’t convert their chances; all roads lead to the Championship next season.

Ekitike is that player you expect to see on the score sheet in this game. In the absence of the trio of Mohamed Salah, who is away at AFCON, Cody Gakpo and Isak, who are both injured. You wonder if this is where it all comes together for Florian Wirtz, who is yet to score for the champions.

Verdict: Straight win for Liverpool
