The weekend in Europe's football world was filled with unusual outcomes and perplexing incidents.

Arsenal conceded two goals; who would have thought? While some aspects of the game needed the referee to do better, Arsenal's strong defensive structure was tested by a robust Sunderland approach.

The Gunners went into the weekend with a five-point advantage over the rest of the league, with Bournemouth in second; however, that lead has been cut to four, and the second team on the log is now Manchester City.

Arsenal fans will have to deal with pundits and their negative aura for at least two weeks, as questions will be asked of Arsenal's title credentials after Manchester City hammered Liverpool 3-0. Can Arsenal withstand the pressure this time?

Manchester City showed class as they beat Liverpool; however, the anomaly of the weekend struck as Erling Haaland missed from the spot. He did score eventually—one he knew nothing about—but he wasn't the star of the match; it was Jeremy Doku.

Away from there, Aston Villa beat Bournemouth silly; four unanswered goals past Andoni Iraola's side and, to make it worse for the FPL contingents, Antoine Semenyo missed from the spot. What a weekend.

It didn't stop there; while the boring game between Manchester United and Tottenham didn't really surprise anyone, not a lot of people saw Brentford's soccer punch on Newcastle coming; it was a rude shock.

From Newcastle's poor away form to Eddie Howe's unbelievable complacency, which was evident in how he left on Dan Burn, who was already on a yellow and had gotten away with one incident, he went on to concede a penalty and got sent off.

Away from England, it was a harvest of goallessness in the Serie A. Como has gone from the exciting side people love to a side that doesn't know how to score anymore. Are they a level below people's expectations of them?

AC Milan couldn't find a win, Napoli lost to Bologna, and Atalanta lost 3-0 at home to a Sassuolo side that couldn't beat Genoa at home just a few days ago. The weird weekend continued in other leagues as well.

Real Madrid couldn't find a goal; who would have thought? The Los Blancos settled for a goalless draw against Rayo Vallecano. Who would have thought? Even Barcelona's 4-2 win away at Celta was a surprise considering the form of the home side.

Bayern Munich, for the first time this season, failed to win a game as they drew 2-2 away at Union Berlin; Feyenoord lost at Go Ahead Eagles, while Galatasaray was beaten in Turkey… What a weekend!
