Burnley is the latest team to try to stop Arsenal in what looks like the season in which the Gunners finally land the title. Can the hosts stop them?

Burnley is one of the three newly promoted sides that have been really impressive this season. The story of the new boys in the past two seasons is that of gloom and doom, with all six from the last two seasons combined going down; Burnley, Leeds United and Sunderland are all walking against that norm.

Speaking of Arsenal, is it appropriate to call them champions elect as early as game week 10? The next two game weeks could be of huge significance to the Gunners, as they could open even a wider gap on the big boys if they win their next two games.

With Burnley in this fixture and Sunderland in the one before the break, the Gunners could be as much as eight points clear, with Liverpool and Manchester City facing each other next weekend and tough opposition, respectively, this weekend.

Mikel Arteta is ensuring his side doesn’t get carried away, though. The Spaniard is keeping things cool and shutting out all title talks for now. While he acknowledges the strength of his squad, he won’t allow distractions for now; it’s clearly their title to lose.

Scott Parker knows the challenge before him; his team will have to be perfect to earn anything from this game, as they’re playing against a team that has faced only one shot on target from their last three games and has only conceded three goals in all competitions this season.

Burnley has troubled top teams this season; it took a late moment of madness from Jaydon Antony to hand a penalty to Manchester United when both met at Old Trafford, and another similar incident when Burnley went to Liverpool. They can’t afford to make mistakes against Arsenal.

For the Gunners, it’s a huge chance to keep the momentum going. You’re as good as your last game, and despite struggling in the early stages of the League Cup on Wednesday, the Gunners rallied to win 2-0; they must take that energy into this game.

Bukayo Saka will be a threat; his goal in midweek shows how sharp he is after the illness that slowed him down last weekend. You want to fancy Viktor Gyokeres for this one as well as Ebere Eze. Burnley would hope that their performance at Wolves is replicated at home against Arsenal; they must be careful, though.

Verdict: Straight win for Arsenal
