Game Week 1 saw sensational performances in the Premier League. With the transfer window still open until 1st September, we take a look at five things we learnt from the weekend in the English Premier League.

Glory days in sight for Manchester United

Despite losing at home to Arsenal, you could see what Manchester United was trying to do, and it would only take a few more additions and training sessions for them to become the team to beat.

Altay Bayindir was directly responsible for the goal they conceded against Arsenal; this means they still don’t have a solution to the Andre Onana problem. They should be actively looking to replace the two keepers who could undo everything the rest of the lads are doing.

There won’t be three idiots this season.

Luton Town, Sheffield United and Burnley all went down as they came up two seasons ago; the trio of Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton did the same last season; the new trio will change that.

Burnley was well beaten by Tottenham on Saturday, but you could see some flashes of brilliance which could get them over the line, but Leeds United beat Everton on Monday night, while Sunderland destroyed West Ham on Saturday. We should be excited about the new boys.

Manchester City are back to their best.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City was swashbuckling against Wolves, and while their opposition at the weekend wasn’t the strongest one, you could see the Cityzens dominate every phase of play.

It took a little while for them to get going, but once they did, there was no looking back. Oscar Bobb and Tijani Reijnders were too good to be stopped. Erling Haaland looks sharp, and you’ll struggle to find any weakness in this City side; let’s see them against Spurs this weekend.

Fatigue could hurt Chelsea.

Chelsea struggled to keep up with the pace against Crystal Palace and was lucky to have their visitors’ goal disallowed; their participation in the Club World Cup is beginning to haunt them.

The Blues only returned to training last week; they had just 10 days before the Palace game. By the time they get into their strides, they could be a few points off the pace, while the real problem could surface towards Christmas. Is their depth enough to see them through the storm?

Brentford and West Ham in trouble?

Not just because they both lost at the weekend, but the quality in their squad begs for concern. Brentford lost to Nottingham Forest, while Sunderland took the Hammers to the cleaners.

The window is still open; they both can go into the window to source quality squad players. Joan Wissa is leaving Brentford just like Bryan Mbeumo did; West Ham has deeper issues than transfers, Keith Smith is a Premier League rookie, and is Graham Potter in another round of trouble?
