One of the biggest shocks of the Club World Cup was recorded in the early hours of Tuesday at the Orlando Stadium, Florida, as Saudi club Al Hilal eliminated Premier League giants Manchester City.

When it rains, it pours for Pep Guardiola and his Cityzens as Simeone Inzaghi’s Al Hilal stunned the reigning champions with a sensational extra-time masterclassas the game ended 4-3, not long after Brazilian side Fluminense edged out Champions League finalists Inter Milan 2-0.

Club captain Bernardo Silva had scored in the 9th minute, but quick-fire goals from Marcus Leonardo and Malcolm took the Arabians in front shortly after the halftime break, but Erling Haaland levelled matters five minutes before the hour mark as the game ended 2-2 in normal time.

Just four minutes into extra time, former Chelsea defender Khalidou Koulibaly headed home from a Ruben Neves corner before Phil Foden levelled matters again just a few minutes afterwards with a sleek back post finish.

Leonardo squeezed in the winner in the 112th minute after some defensive mix-up in the City area, leaving Guardiola stunned on the sideline. Al Hilal will square up with Fluminense in the quarter finals of the Club World Cup.

"We knew it was a difficult game against one of the best teams in the world," Koulibaly said. "We wanted to show our ideas, our talent, and our power, and I think that we made a very good game.

"Defensively we were very strong, and offensively all of the opportunities we could put inside, we put in, so we can be happy."

The Club World Cup continues later on Tuesday with Juventus squaring up with Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid, while Borussia Dortmund has a date earlier on Wednesday against the tournament’s surprise package, Australia’s Monterrey.
