Antonio Conte led Napoli to the Serie A title on Friday night after a dominant 2-0 win over Cagliari at the Diego Maradona Stadium in Naples, shrugging off Inter Milan, who did their bit against Como away from home.

To be fair, the league was lost last weekend for Inter Milan as they failed to win at home against Lazio despite leading twice on the night and failing to take advantage of Napoli’s slip-up away at Udinese; they knew it was always going to be tough to go to Como and win while expecting Napoli to lose to Cagliari.

Antonio Conte was always going to be dangerous; with no European football after Napoli finished tenth last season, it was always going to be an advantage for Napoli to have a whole week to prepare for the next game against Inter, who competed in all competitions till the final rounds.

"Everyone contributed to this – but the coach most of all," Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo said while alluding to the point that the manager was instrumental to their triumph. "Napoli needed him to get back on top. He's phenomenal."

Scott McTominay was voted as the MVP of the season, and you can’t argue that. The Scott manoeuvred a sensational bicycle kick from a Di Lorenzo cross to hand Napoli the opener on their way to the win on Friday night, and he was unarguably the best tool in Conte’s workshop.

Asked where this ranks in his title-winning career as a coach, Conte insists this is the most difficult, considering he won it three times with Juventus and a Premier League title with Chelsea too. "the most unexpected, the most difficult, and the most stimulating in terms of the challenge."

"It happened again, and it's something wonderful," Conte said. "When we got to the stadium, it was honestly difficult to get in, as I don't know how many people were there." I had a slight thought: if we let these people down, it'd be something we carried with us for a long time."

Conte now becomes the only Serie A manager to win the title with three different teams after winning with Juventus and Inter Milan previously. Although Fabio Capello could lay claim to the same feat, his Juventus trophies were stripped off him due to the referee scandals that got Juventus relegated to the third tier of Italian football.

Inter Milan led the log briefly on Friday night after going ahead away at Como, but McTominay’s leveller and Romelu Lukaku’s solo run meant the title leaves Milan for Naples. Simeone Inzaghi and Inter will now focus on their Champions League final against PSG, which is very much possible to be their title.
