Manchester United delivered arguably the game of the season on Thursday at Old Trafford in the Europa League; the hangover of that performance could still be in the air when Wolves visit on Sunday.

Who does that? Only Manchester United can race to a two-goal lead, get a numerical advantage as Olympique Lyon got reduced to ten men and then concede four goals to go 4-2 down at home and then score three goals in the final three minutes of extra time to win 5-4; it was a scene at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim was vocal at his press conference, berating the fans who left the stadium at 4-2, but to be fair, who would be happy to see his team losing by two goals to a side that got reduced to ten? United showed why they’re as big as they were; can they build on that?

Wolves could confirm their top-flight status for next season by beating Manchester United, and if they can’t, a draw would still be enough for them to celebrate survival, and by so doing, they would be sending the duo of Leicester City and Ipswich back to the Championship.

Since coming in to the dugout for Wolves, coach Vitor Pereira has picked up an unbelievable number of points, and you wonder if this would have been the case with Gary O’Neil in charge. It was a masterstroke of a signing for Wolves, and they could be celebrating at full time.

Ruben Amorim has confirmed that he would rotate his squad roundly for the visit of Wolves, and to be fair, they have nothing to fight for in the league; the Red Devils cannot be relegated anymore, and while a top ten finish could salvage some pride, it won’t amount to much.

A win in the Europa League guarantees Champions League football next season; clinching the ticket from 14th spot in the Premier League would raise eyebrows, but the possibility is high as they only need to beat Athletic Bilbao and whoever they meet in the final.

For Wolves, they’re going into the fixture to go look for their next season’s ticket in the Premier League. While they remain the firm favourite for survival, it is not done until it is done; they won’t take anything for granted, and that means we have a huge game on our hands.

Verdict: Both teams to score.
