Liverpool's treble dream has ended after PSG rose above the first leg defeat to beat the Reds on penalties in the round of 16 game at Anfield on Tuesday.

Ousmane Dembélé levelled the tie early in the first half as the French side went into the halftime break 1-0; Liverpool huffed and puffed, but it was the visitors who looked the likelier to score as the game went into extra time and into penalties.

Curtis Jones and Darwin Nunez missed from the spot and Desire Doue fired in the winner to send PSG through into the next round where they will face the winner between Aston Villa and Club Brugge with the Premier League side in a great position to advance.

Reacting to the loss, Arne Slot said it's the best game he's been part of since he joined the Kops, but he must reevaluate things and ensure there are no surprises as they close in on their second Premier League title in five years.

Elsewhere on the night, Bayern Munich showed Xabi Alonso and his Bayer Leverkusen side who is in charge in Germany after a 2-0 win on the ground of the reigning Bundesliga champions, making it a sensational 5-0 aggregate win with Vincent Kompany now set to face Inter Milan.

Speaking of Inter Milan, they ran out 2-1 winners in their second leg clash at the San Siro Stadium on Tuesday night over Feyenoord, winning the tie 4-1 on aggregate, and the reward for that is a date with the German side Bayern Munich.

Barcelona beat Benfica 3-1 to win the tie 4-1 and would face the winner of the clash between Lille and Borussia Dortmund. Lille will host last year's finalists on Wednesday with a 1-1 scoreline to improve on, that is one game to keep an eye on.

Arsenal hosts PSV Eindhoven having won the first leg emphatically away from home; PSV knows it's more academic than anything else as they try to overcome a 7-1 scoreline; it is an opportunity for Arsenal to get minutes for the likes of Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Martinelli.

the game of the night is the one at the Wanda Metropolitan. Real Madrid beat Atletico 2-1 in the first leg and are expected to wrap things up but, Atletico will give the game everything they have and indeed, it's the game to keep an eye on among the Wednesday fixtures.
